The card looks pretty good for the first card since the purchase of ProElite, I understand that StrikeForce needs to start off slow and build up to their large “starpower” filled card… With the likes of Shields, Lawler, Cung Le, Gina, Overeem (still under contract and their HW champion), Babalu, and possibly Aoki later this year things are looking bright for the little organization from Northern California…..
    I care ;-)

      I care too.

I’m a bit frustrated that Strikeforce is doing a catch weight bout for their first on Showtime, then they’re going to have final EliteXC MW champ v. final EliteXC WW champ. I’m interested in seeing the fight, but I wanted to see Joe Riggs fight shields too. But whatever, I’m excited about the organization and hope they do well.

I completely understand where you are coming from Justin, but please allow me to state that @ UFC 99 (The Comeback) the main event is Wanderlei Silva v Rich Franklin at a catch weight of 195, now yes UFC is established so is StrikeForce but I would like to see the MW title up for grabs on thier first card yet again the LW title is up for grabs and that is a cool thing all on its own…..

The one catch weight bout I can let slide, especially since (hopefully) it will involve Nick Diaz losing, but to follow that event up with Shields v. Lawler compounds the negative aspects of the first fight. Then there’s the whole thing where Shields acted like a cry baby and said Riggs wasn’t a big enough name for him, so they gave him a bigger name (side note – I knew who Riggs was before I knew who Shields was), I have to call shenanigans on that one. I also don’t like that they are not unifying the MW belts (I know Le is acting… but still).

Yea I see what your saying. If they really wanted to do something like that they could of had EXC champ Lawler vs. Strikeforce champ Cung Le go at it.
