A rematch between WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown and former title-holder Urijah Faber has been finalized to headline WEC 41 on June 7th at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California.

Five Ounces of Pain first confirmed that the matchup had been signed late Monday. According to the report, the event will air live on Versus, not on pay-per-view as previously rumored.

Brown (21-4), who trains out of American Top Team, is undefeated in his last nine bouts. After a six fight win streak, Brown debuted in the WEC with a unanimous decision victory over Jeff Curran at WEC 34 last June then challenged Faber for the title, claiming the belt with a first-round TKO. In his first title defense, Brown submitted Leonard Garcia in under two minutes at WEC 39 on March 1st.

Faber (22-2) won the featherweight title at WEC 19 in early-2006 and successfully defended the belt five times, including victories over Curran and Jens Pulver, before relinquishing it to Brown last November. He again defeated Pulver in January via first-round submission to earn an opportunity at reclaiming the championship.

Wow, i’m excited for this fight, especially now that i know it’s going to be free and not on PPV. I like both of these guys and i think this fight can go either way. Brown is a tough guy with good power, Faber has good takedowns and good striking as well. Can’t wait for this fight, but if i had to pick someone for this fight i’m going with th “California Kid”, and maybe we can see a third fight if Faber wins.

  • timcat says:

I hope Faber shows up this time.

    • fanatic says:

You should go back and re-watch the first fight…It is hard to break a guys ribs if you do not show up. Faber got caught…it happens, it has absolutely nothing to do with showing up or not. The fight, although short, was fast paced with both fighters pushing the pace.

  • timcat says:

Also I was wondering: why is it every time Faber has a big fight it is in front of his home town crowd?

    • fr702 says:

Probably because the last time the WEC was in Sacramento and Urijah headlined the card the WEC had like 13,000 people in Arco (which I believe is more the UFC “stacked” had) and this fight will pack the arena again..

  • fr702 says:

WoW, Urijah gets to fight in his backyard yet again… This is going to be a really good fight I cannot wait… I fly in the day before, then I guess its back on the road to go see this fight in person in Sacramento (which is going to be the shhh), I hope it is as much fun as Faber v Pulver I was… O and Urijah no dumb asss flying elbows please, you will have a hard enough time fighting Brown as is don’t make mistakes :-)

  • marvelknight4 says:

I hope that Faber comes in mentally strong. I say that because he;s facing the guy who tko’d him and took his title and just destroyed Garcia. This will be Urijah’s biggest test to date because he has to overcome his loss and the pressure that comes with defeating the guy who defeated you. In my opinion Faber should take Brown to the ground, but he does have the ability to finish brown on his feet as well. Brown can also end the fight standing or on the ground. I feel that this is without a doubt the biggest featherweight fight in WEC history and I am very excited to see what’s going to happen that night.

    • marvelknight4 says:

Also, since Faber is a huge name. I would like to see him have a go at 155 in the UFC, whether he wins or loses to Brown. It would be awesome to see Urijah Faber fight guys like Diego Sanchez, Kenny Florian, Sean Sherk and even his buddy, Bj Penn. Urijah Faber is talented and tough enough to compete at 155 in my opinion.

  • russiandoeboi says:

i think faber needs to be his best all over the map self, up down acrobatic. i don’t think getting brown to the mat or not is the key.

he is not a caitious fighter but he did open himsef up to be kO’d by brown.

this fight is exciting to me as much a,
    fedor/barnett if it happens) evans/machida, penn/florian

  • bigchris2328 says:

Im pulling for faber, but brown has showed he is very talented. This could turn out to be like serra-gsp. brown is definately more talented than serra, but the circumstances are eerily similar. and the fight is in faber’s hometown… faber by tko due to GnP in the 3rd. should be a great fight though. I also think faber or brown could do damage at 155 in the ufc. I dont see either one beating ken-flo, but I think both will beat bj. bj just doesnt have his head into fighting anymore. I would like to see both guys move to the ufc in the next year though.

    • fr702 says:

By no means is Brwon v Faber I like GSP (The Greatness) v Serra I… Perhaps you lost me in the analogy but hey my mind is somewhere else at the moment… Brown over his career has been a very aggressive tactical fighter, and he may have “caught” Faber in the first fight, but with Brown absolutely destroying Garcia (and of the fights I’ve seen of Brown’s) the guy is talented and deserves to be champ cuz he “beat the champ”…… Faber didn’t do great at 155 but was competitive he did lose to Griffin, I think that Brown is super huge for 45 and he could make a leap to 155 but the WEC doesn’t want to lose their top guys just because we think they could move up.. I also don’t believe that rightnow at this moment either could beat Penn, I think it would be the Sean Sherk fight all over again if Faber would fight Penn (plus they are friends and friends don’t let other friends drive drunk nor do they fight one another)

    • gunslinger says:

brown and faber beat bj your crazy! wow!

  • carls says:

i think if edgar loses to sherk he should drop to the WEC 145 and with him gamburian and hopefully din thomas, someday we could see some good match-ups down the line

  • marvelknight4 says:

It would be awesome to see Miguel Torres move up to 145. He’d run through everyone in that division.

  • nightmare says:

cant wait for this i know afber will be more ready this time but i still hope brown wins. i do believe he is getting rematch to soon though.

  • marvelknight4 says:

Faber was so dominant for a long time, he put the 145 division on the mainstream map, he had a really long winning streak and he defended his title on numerous occasions so i can’t think of anyone better than Faber to face Brown right now

  • jazzkok says:

totally dude. this fight’s going to be different than the first fight. i’m sure faber will be more technical this time cuz he doesn’t want to get dropped like last time. i expect both fighters to come out aggresive. Good match!

  • jazzkok says:

    fr702

i’m diggin your new nickname for my boy GSP.

    • fr702 says:

Jazz, hahaha the story goes that I lost a friendly bet to an individual in regards to UFC 94, so for my part of “eating crow” I have to call GSP “The Greatness” for like two months (not that it is that big of a deal because I’m an oddity I’m a fan of both GSP and BJ Penn soo no biggie) if I won the bet he had to wear BJ Penn clothing (shirt or shorts can’t quite remember)the thing is that my friend HATES Penn so I thought cool idea, the way that my postings got involved was, my friend reads the site but is too much of a sisssy to post so he saw that on one post I didn’t say The Greatness and literally called me on the phone and told me I wasn’t keeping to our bet, I have to do it in public too, but I think that GSP is great so no problem calling him The Greatness…

ps. Jake you should post here punk

  • josh110/ says:

    Long Live King Faber
Ok first of all everyone knows that if faber didn’t through a crazy elbow. Which some people say is anderson silva like?? Come on, faber is the face of the feather weight division. And that is why some web sites still consider him #1 in the world. Any ways that fight would of been stopped at the end of round 1 due to doctor stoppage cause browns rib injury. Wow let’s cry about it some more. And those of u that say brown is so big??? Really look at the weigh in photos for that fight. Faber is bigger and will out wrestle and submit brown any day. The rematch will
