The UFC doled out $50,000 bonuses to three fighters tonight but one man would double that tonight in Las Vegas as Ryan Benoit doubled up to $100,000 after his opponent, Josh Sampo, missed weight Friday. The promotion also awarded bonuses to Nate Diaz and TUF 18 champion Chris Holdsworth for their efforts tonight. UFC president Dana White announced the bonuses at the post-fight press conference.
In an odd turn of events, online preliminary fighter Ryan Benoit would earn $100,000 in bonus money despite losing in the “Fight of the Night” to Josh Sampo via submission. The bonus is a first for Benoit, who was making his promotional debut tonight.
TUF 18 champion Chris Holdsworth picked up a “Submission of the Night” after a superb effort tonight in Vegas. Holdsworth picked up the submission after stunning Team Rousey’s David Grant with a wicked headkick and taking his back in an ensuing scramble. The Ultimate Fighter 18 standout’s bonus will go nicely with his new contract and TUF trophy.
TUF 5 champion Nate Diaz would pick up “Knockout of the Night” by destroying Gray Maynard in what was likely their final battle. Diaz took advantage of a Maynard mistake early in their fight and quickly brought an unbearable amount of pressure down on Maynard that eventually saw Yves Lavigne stop the carnage. The bonus puts Diaz behind only Joe Lauzon and former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva in bonuses with 11 total.
