Magalhaes Replaces Ciesnolevicz Against Marshall at UFC 97
Mike Ciesnolevicz who recently defeated heavyweight Neil Grove via submission at UFC 95 in February has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled light heavyweight bout at UFC 97 against “The Ultimate Fighter 8″ cast member Elliot Marshall, due to an undisclosed injury. Stepping in on short notice to replace the injured fighter is Marshall’s TUF 8 teammate Vinny Magalhaes, according to MMAWeekly.
Both fighters will bring Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt honors into the cage with them on fight night. This will be their first encounter with one another in MMA, though that have competed against one other in grappling tournaments in the past.
During their stint on “The Ultimate Fighter” Magalhaes took exception when Marshall and fellow teammate Krzysztof Soszynski were discussing facing one another in the Finale. Magalhaes went on to defeat Soszynski in the semi-finals before losing to Ryan Bader in the finale. Marshall, on the other hand lost to Bader in the semi-finals.

This should be a great fight. Vinny needs to improve his one trick pony style a little, imo.
Yea, this should be a good fight. Hopefully full of action like the Maia McDonald fight – very technical.
Both these guys would blow out each other knees if it ends up like in the grove fight.
I don’t like this match up for elliot. Imo to beat Vinny you need to be a better striker and need good takedown defense. Elliot’s strength is on the ground and while his striking is better than Vinny’s its not that much better. I say Vinny round 1 via sub.
The fire marshall is a beast and he’s going to tear Vinny’s ass apart. Elliot Marshall has way better stand up than vinny could ever dream of and elliot knows vinny has better ground game so he’s going to do his best to keep it standing. Elliot is also no slouch on the ground either so this is going to be a sick fight and i cant wait!
