NSAC Takes No Action at Greasegate Hearing

Georges St-Pierre Punches BJ Penn at UFC 94

Georges St-Pierre Punches BJ Penn at UFC 94

The Nevada State Athletic Commission took no formal action today in its investigation into greasing allegations made by BJ Penn against UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, who defeated Penn via fourth-round TKO on January 31st in Las Vegas.

Prior to hearing testimony from St-Pierre’s cornerman Phil Nurse, who applied Vaseline to St-Pierre’s shoulders and back while performing a breathing technique between rounds, and trainer Grag Jackson as well as Penn, the NSAC confirmed that no action would be taken at the meeting. Instead, the commission obtained as much information as possible regarding the incident so rules could potentially be adapted in the future.

NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer confirmed at the meeting that a formal complaint would not be made against St-Pierre, who is slated to take on Thiago Alves at UFC 100 on July 11th in Las Vegas.

bj is so pissed, now he is gonna claim that the nsac is protecting gsp or some sort of bs conspiracy crap. glad to hear no punishment will happen. hopefully this greasegate crap is over with forever.

  • Giggy says:

Good news !!! St-Pierre needs to get Penn back in the cage !!!

  • Q says:

Yea, hopefully this is done. However if BJ keeps bringing this up, its just going to enrage GSP and guarantee a future crap kickin from GSP.

  • JimmyG says:

This needs to end. And BJ needs to defend his lightweight belt. Its going on a year without him defending it. I feel bad for Florian. I’d love for that fight to happen at UFC99

  • Turk says:

This is easily the best news I’ve heard all day. Boo Hoo Hoo Bj. He should just retire as champ NOW while he still can. I hope Florian smashes him quick witch I believe he will.

  • jeff says:

i think sanchez would beat bj,i could be wrong but all i see is a sore loser in bg penn!!!

  • mikewh says:

The UFC will not want BJ continually spouting off about this now that the Athletic commission has dealt with it, in their eyes it’s over. They dont want to be upstaged by BJ’s pathetic attempts to manipulate a rematch.

i knew this was gonna happen…

the nasc prolly looked at the footage and said” we cant nail him to the cross for that, so lets get the next guy”

  • bigchris2328 says:

I think bj has become the next tito. he is just a punk and finds any excuse on why he lost. hopefully he will get cut by the ufc just like tito was. tito was a somewhat popular guy when he was cut after his double losses to chuck. thats what this bj-gsp thing seems like. I just hope gsp doesnt follow chuck’s path after he was done with tito.

I’m really disappointed that there was no closure to this issue. Rather than imposing some penalty on the Jackson camp, or telling BJ and his Lawyer outright that nothing would be done, and they’re wasting they’re time, they just left everything open. I personally am just ready to be done with this, but by them leaving this open, we can’t have that.

The UFC made immediate rule changes didn’t they. I believe they have to do with only approved athletic commission cutmen being able to touch vaseline…something to that effect. Perhaps an official warning could have been sent to Phil Nurse.

    • Justin says:

Yes, the UFC did make that change. They also changed the order of actions taken before entering the Octagon. In the past the fighter would pull off their warm ups, get greased by the cut man outside the Octagon, get checked by the ref (for mouthpiece, cup, and the ref would feel there shoulders, ears, and such), then hug all their trainers/entourage, then enter the Octagon. Now they are to take off their warm ups, do their hugs, cut man, ref, straight into the octagon, no further contact with their team.

From what I’ve read (here and elsewhere) the NSAC may be looking to put in place some of their own new regulations for the future, outside of what the UFC has done to police itself, so to speak.

it is good to know the ufc stepped up to take care of this on their own it shows that they are serious about doing things the right way and that they dont have to rely on the commissions when something goes wrong

  • nis says:

well GSP is some sort of a monster that cant be controlled really, his really strong like shrek, well i dont wanna c a 3rd match up between the 2,i wana c sanchez “nightmare” kick bj’s ass, florian is not ready for penn yet, maybe sanchez vs florian part 2 wud be great!!!! gsp aka STRENGTH LIKE SHREK ur monster bro

  • timcat says:

BJ had his mom testify at the hearing. My god is he a man or a baby. Wait his name is Baby Jay.

  • Larry says:

Truth be told I watched Dana on a video the other day and he sounded more to be on BJ’s side than GSP. He puts a lot of hope in BJ’s continued ability. GSP won’t sit by and take it lightly, I don’t think he’s that kind of guy. Be careful Dana, be cery careful what you say.

  • Jazzkok says:

wow hopefully this situation is over and everyone can concentrate on the future. I hope this whole thing doesn’t affect GSP’s mental state and focus going into his next title defense against that beast thiago alves. It would be a shame if that happened.

Either way glad it’s coming to an end

  • marvelknight4 says:

I really can’t believe how low Bj Penn and his camp have gone. Bringing his mom, i mean come on dude just let it go. I know in the MMA community there are mixed feelings about this issue, but i’m confident that most of us MMA fans know that BJ Penn is just embarrassed that he got destroyed. And i’m pretty sure that most fans believe that the fight would have turned out the same either way. Penn really exagerated when he said that GSP cheats to keep the title. Penn and his mom are talking about “for the love of the sport”. If Penn had true love for the sport he would have accepted his loss like a true fighter, and if he really had love for the sport and not just himself, he would have handled this more maturely like the champion that he is, but he’s not doing that he’s just crying and whinning like a baby who can’t get what it wants.

  • mikewh says:

    Larry,
Could you tell me where to find the video your refering to, i must have missed it…thanks.
