Anthony Johnson vs. John Howard Off For TUF 9 Finale
A rumored bout between welterweights Anthony Johnson and John Howard slated for The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale on June 20th in Las Vegas will not take place after Howard reportedly backed out of the fight due to dissatisfaction with the amount he would be paid for the matchup.
Johnson confirmed that the fight was off in a recent interview on the Sports Action Network (via Fightlinker).
MMAFrenzy.com has learned that Johnson is likely to remain on the card and that a search is underway to find a replacement for the bout.
Johnson (7-2) is coming off of back-to-back victories over Kevin Burns and Luigi Fioravanti, via third-round knockout and first-round TKO respectively, and has won four of his six UFC fights. Howard (11-4) picked up a split decision victory over Chris Wilson in his UFC debut, which earned both men “Fight of the Night” honors, and is on a four fight win streak.

wise move now u will be getting no cash at all and will probley lose ur job. what a jack ass
Sometimes you need to see the big picture. No one knows who John Howard is, you aren’t a name. Which means you take a smaller amount to headline a event and get your name out there. You KO Rumble and you can start demanding more money. In the mean time have fun doing rinky dink shows in some converted bar. If this is your career sometimes you have to sacrifice to get further, understanding that is why I have moved from beautiful Hawaii to Reno F*ing Nevada a year ago. Its all about big picture thinking
dumb, nowyou can tell he only fights for money
Without money you can’t support yourself
i know, but to not fight because you don’t think your getting payed enough is dumb
nightmares right alot of people dont fight for money…..I mean the money is nice once you can earn alot but myself and alot of other people i know that fight dont really fight for that reason….its more about the feeling you get the adrenaline rushing through your body and pushing yourself further and further every fight and seeing how far you can go…….(see the book “A Fighters Heart” by Sam Sheridan its a great book and really makes you think and shows really why real fighters fight…..Man I really believe howard just doesnt want to get ko’d because lets be honest I mean who isnt intimidated by rumble johnson…….I would give anything to fight in the ufc…for money or not just fighting in the ufc gets you recongnition in any gym and with any fight org. and promoter…..Man what i would give to be in howards spot
completely agree johnboy, had that retard been able to win maybe he would have got more money in the future. he probably realized he would be destroyed by rumble and backed out. maybe he will get to fight gono. that will prove if rumble is ready to fight the upper echelon guys at 170.
hey who knows…maybe howard knows he can’t beat rumble, and doesn’t wanna risk injury or a really poor showing for $4000. without knowing howard’s situation, it’s so hard to say. it sucks to say no to opportunity, but there’s 3 sides to every story…
see if the UFC (ZUFFA as a whole) would pay their no name run of the mill fighters better they wouldn’t have a problem signing a contract and agreeing to a set amount of money that the said fighter agreed too, damn UFC trying to pay people the amount of money that they all agreed apawn such bs
I think someone didn’t want to get their asssss kicked on tv bottom line
I have a feeling this is one of the last opportunities that Howard will have to turn down a fight offered by the UFC. His next offer will likely be coming from another promotion.
How did turning down a fight workout for War “Jon” Machine? Why do the fighters believe that they can tell their boss, “well I signed a contract for that price, but no I refuse to do a contracted job, I’m good thx”….. Shhhhit if we did that guess what you get replaced, should be interesting..
Im glad… I like AJ and would much rather he fight a bigger name. I have been slacking on my MMA watching lately but I dont know John Howard aside from reading his record. I know the UFC doesnt want to rush AJ along but I would rather see him take on Martin Kampmann or Dustin Hazelett.
Martin is alredy on the books for another fight but I think Dustin is available.
