I think that I would rather see Bobby Lashley take on Razor Ramon. Then I would give the fight to R.R. via razors edge. 2nd round 4th min……Assuming no steel chairs are involved.

    • bubba says:

why does no one have a problem with a freak show like hong man choi coming over to try to do mma but they feel the need to rag on an ncaa champion wrestler just because he did something else first it isnt like the guy was only a pro wrestler and he made the conscious choice to start at the bottom and work his way up whether he did it to prove himself i dont know but he at least is trying to show that actually has skils and is more than just a ticket draw

      • chrisl says:

Lashley isn’t an NCAA champion. However, I do see your point bubba. I think the fact that Lashley is starting out small is a good thing though. A lot of people forget a lot of the Pride FC guys were professional wrestlers in Japan. Sports Entertainment (I can’t call that wrestling, FILA says so haha) has just a little more stigma here than it does in Japan. Lesnar got lucky w/ his name, marketing pull, an NCAA title (and second place finish to Stephen Neal(yes the RG for the Patriots)), and being w/ Minnesota Martial Arts academy.

  • willyd says:

Not a top notch name for Lashley like Shamrock would have been, Guida needs to bring all his Hellhouse skills with him since he is giving up so much size and weight.

  • marvelknight4 says:

Lashley is going to destroy Guida. I wanted to see him destroy Shamrock but thats not going to happen. I’d like to see Lashley fight Brock one day. That fight would be a huge draw considering the fact that they both were top WWE guys and will bring in some of that to hype that fight if it happened. Lashley beats Guida via ko or tko in the first.

  • aznstar says:

Marvel Knight you bring up and interesting question, would the UFC (who hates any WWE comparisons) have 2 former WWE stars fight for the HW title? Of course this would mean Lashley continues to win and Brock beats Mir and then defends once or twice against guys like Shane “Steve” Carwin.

    • marvelknight4 says:

I think the UFC would think about making Lashley vs. Lesnar, of course assuming Lashley keeps moving up and Lesnar keeps winning. I just thought this matchup sounded interesting, but it’s a long shot.

      • Justin says:

Dana has stated that he’s not as interested in Lashely as he was Lesnar, he doesn’t think Lashley is as good yet as Lesnar was when they picked him up. We’ll see how he does against Fat Guida, and maybe Dana will change his mind, but then again maybe not.

    • zac says:

Bahahah!! I would love to see “Steve” get a title shot after 1-2 more wins. I’d be yelling STEVE! STEVE! STEVE! and nobody will know wtf I’m talking about and just think i’m an idiot. its going to be awesome.

    • RJA says:

      shane”steve”carwin Lmao

  • Jazzkok says:

kim should be fighting a higher “ranked” ww. in my opinion he was cheated the decision victory over karo. He’s good and has potential to be @ the top of the ww div. Goulet isn’t on kim’s level and just got ko’d by swick. This fight doesn’t make much sense to me. I guess no other ww’s were available to fight kim. I wonder who fitch is going to fight. He should be fighting swick and saunders should be fighting kim.

    • Justin says:

Cheated out of a win or not, Kim is still coming off of a loss. With the UFC looking to make a push into Asia (either Japan or Korea) soon, I think they want to try to protect Kim (Korean) from getting a second back to back loss, so they put him against a Tomato Can in Goulet, who they probably don’t mind cutting. Besides that, most of the time when a guy comes off a loss (whether he got robbed or not) he gets an easier fight the next time out; Kim is coming off of a loss, so he gets an easier fight, instead of a tough fight like Saunders. Not to mention your desired Fitch v. Swick fight is only slightly more likely than Machida v. A. Silva, considering they train together at AKA.

      • marvelknight4 says:

Swick and Fitch need to think about a few things. Even if they are training partners they are both top guys in the Welterweight division, and if either of them want to make a run at the title they might have to fight eachother in the future or one of them needs to go to different weight class. Same as Machida and Silva, Machida is a top 1,2 or 3 Lightheavyweight. If Silva ever wanted to go to 205 and make a run at the title thay would have to be men about it and fight, just the same with Swick,Fitch and Koscheck.

      • Justin says:

Actually Silva has decided to not make a run at 205 because of Machida.

  • marvelknight4 says:

I want Lashley to destroy 2 more guys so that Dana White can take notice and give him a shot in the UFC. I think with a little more work Lashley can beat a lot of guys.

  • RJA says:

Poor jason..with any luck it will end quickley, and he won’t feel a thing.I think his brother would have a better chance despite a 100 pound weight diference.Maybe they could have met at a catch weight lol.

  • Dirty says:

No doubt Lashleys a beast, very athletic and very strong, I think he’ll find success in MMA.
I’m sure Dana’s keeping his eye on him and waiting for the right time.
Brock Lesnar is a one of a kind athlete. Bobby Lashley’s like a Kevin Randleman, a jacked guy who is a very strong wrestler but naturally smaller.
I forget the details but I believe Lashley was not even a heavyweight while he was wrestling amateur.

  • Jazzkok says:

    Justin,

Kim vs Karo was ruled a no contest because your boy karo tested positive for illegal pain killers. So technically, he’s not coming off of a loss, but, i do get your point. I’m just a true mma fan who wants to watch the best fighter fight the best and actually earn a shot at the title. I don’t like how the ufc takes care of some fighters (Bisping, swick, penn). Wether Fitch and Swick train togeter or not, like my boy MARVELKNIGHT said, they BOTH want to be WW champ, and they BOTH are top WW’s so if they both keep winning the chances of them clashing is like my boy Agent Smith said “inveitable”.

    • Justin says:

      Jazz,
      1. Please don’t refer to anybody as “your boy” when directing your comment at me.
      2. It has not been ruled a no contest. It will possibly be ruled a no contest, but as far as I know Karo has yet to go before the NSAC to receive the final ruling on the bout and his positive drug test. Once that takes place, I will stop referring to the fight as a win/loss for either one, if it is ruled a no contest.
      3. Maybe Swick, Fitch, or Kos would be willing to face one another if one of them was champion at that time, but I doubt they would want to face each other in a match-up just for rankings. I am wholly uninterested in arguing this whole “they should fight each other, I don’t care if they do train together” thing, except to say that I wouldn’t want to fight my training partners unless it was either a) take the fight or go find a new gig, or b) for the title. I think most people feel the same way, and Zuffa respects that.

      all,
People whine and cry about “Zuffa doesn’t treat their fighters well” (because of pay) then they want them to make friends/training partners fight each other, which seems like a contradiction to me. “You should treat your fighters better, but you should make friends and training partners fight each other.” Ridiculous.

    • joejoe says:

      i think thats impossible
the bond that these guys have is just too strong
its like being asked to beat you brother unconcious
      i wouldnt
      they wont imo

      • zac says:

thats tough because MMA isnt a “team sport” and if swick wins the title, that doesnt mean fitch is sharing it. individual sports are usually about becoming the champ and dominating, not making friends and avoiding competition because your homie is in the same weight class.

i think it would be difficult to fight someone that was like your brother tho. really tough to argue either way with that one.

  • Jazzkok says:

I completely understand what you guys are saying and i can totally respect that. But it’s not about that. I’m a hardcore fan and IMO to be “the top contender” you have to beat all the top guys in your division to solitify yourself as the best (florian, machida) Any great fighter can stack up win after win after win, fighting guys that are truly not on the same level and then because they’ve beaten like 5 guys in a row who arent even top guys, they are given the “top contender” status and a title shot, when in reality they havent really EARNED a shot by beating the best. Friends or not, if they REALLY want to be the champ and or # 1 contender, and if they (swick, fitch) keep winning, they are going to have to make this decision.

I appreciate comrodary, especially in this sport. But like dana white said in the jackson vs jardine pre fight press cconference regarding training partners jardine and evans- “this isn’t baseball, yuo’re not on a team. we’ll see how close they are when it comes down to being the champ”

    • Justin says:

Jardine and Evans would be fighting for the title, under Dana’s hypothetical situation, which falls under one of the categories I mentioned as acceptable.

Lets put this argument into context, I’m going to use FR702’s rankings as my basis for a UFC top 10 b/c mostly I agree with them and they are the only rankings that are a part of this site.
      1. GSP (The Greatness) 18~2~0
      2, Thiago Alves 16~3~0
      3. Jon Fitch 18~3~0 (1NC)”
      4. Carlos Condit 22~4~0
      5. Mike Swick 13~2~0
      6. Kos 12~4~0
      7. Marcus Davis 16~4~0
      8. Dustin Hazelett 12~4~0
      9. Matt Hughes 42~7~0
      10. Karo 19~5~0

If the UFC ranks fighters in a similar manner, that would put Fitch next in line after Alves for a chance at GSP. Swick could move himself up dominating Saunders, or after that beating Condit (if Condit wins against Kampmann). By that time you could potentially have already Had Fitch v. GSP 2, so Fitch is then either champ or back down the list, *If* Swick were to win out against Saunders and hypothetically Condit, he gets the next shot at Champ which would either mean fighting GSP, or fighting Fitch for a title. Which IMO is an acceptable circumstance for fighting a training partner. I understand the desire to see guys fight top fighters in order to earn a shot, but that can be accomplished without making guys fight friends and training partners.

All of the friend/training partner stuff aside, making Fitch and Swick fight one another to get a title shot takes at least one potential future title fight off the table, lessening the number of potential title bout opportunities, which would then lead to people complaining about “These guys don’t defend their title enough.”

But anyways, I’ve already argued this more than I really wanted to, I’m done with it. At least for now.

      • Justin says:

“that would put Fitch next in line after Alves for a chance at GSP” (assuming GSP wins, if he doesn’t he moves down the list, that causes even less need to have Fitch v. Swick)

      • nightmare says:

i would put matt hughes behind fitch

  • Jazzkok says:

    can i get an amen?

    • willyd says:

No, but you do have a good point. At the same time, I don’t know if I would want to watch a fight with two fighters from the same camp. The killer instinct these guys have wouldn’t be there. They would put on a decent fight and chances are, it would go to a decision. Just my opinion though.

  • Jazzkok says:

I think you have a great point dude. They probably wouldn’t really want to hurt eachother and be hesitant. Either way the chances of that fight happening are pretty slim.

  • Jazzkok says:

You too have a great point justin. In the end, my argument is that no matter what, the best fighters should fight the best fighters and nothing should get in the way if the championships are to keep their prestige and value.

  • JimmyG says:

Goulet? Seriously? How is that guy still in the ufc? Isnt he 2-4 in the ufc? Anyways, itll be interesting to see lashley face better comp. I think he’ll run through guida though

  • marvelknight4 says:

Everyone have a great weekend, i’m done for the week.

  • steve-o says:

    Justin……
    Matt hughes @ 9th doubtful!

    • Justin says:

Not my rankings, and I said “mostly I agree with them”. I could definitely put Hughes higher personally, but at the same time that is hard to do due to inactivity (Knee injury, I know). I think he will beat Serra in May, then we’ll see after that what he decides to do: retire, keep fighting at 170, move up to 185, whatever. Once that’s settled, then it may be easier to find a good place in the rankings for him.

  • steve-o says:

Hughes should be fighting Fitch, not serra. I say Hughes rd 1 via murder! NOt that Hughes is one of my favorites, but he definatly isn’t ranked behind Kos/swick/davis/hazlet!

(watch the fighter bashing – Justin)

  • chrisl says:

Jazz- I agree w/ you on the titles losing their meaning if the best guys won’t fight for them but, it is really hard to go 100% against a friend. That said one of the best KO’s I’ve ever seen came when two friends fought… Sell v. Smith.
