Tim Kennedy

Tim Kennedy wasn’t a top ten ranked middleweight prior to his UFC Fight Night 31 headliner Wednesday, but following his thrilling, KO win over Rafel Natal the 34 year-old fighter is now.

The UFC has released thepromotion’s post “Fight for the Troops III” rankings, and the media members who determine them have moved Kennedy into the #10th spot. Chael Sonnen, who has not competed at middleweight now since last summer and is about to participate in his third straight fight at light-heavyweight, is no longer ranked in the top ten.

Kennedy, who was coming off a UD victory over Roger Gracie prior to fighting Natal, is ranked behind the #9 Costa Philippou.

Another fighter who has moved into a key position, as a result of their win Wednesday, is bantamweight Alexis Davis, who scored a UD victory over former contender Liz Carmouche. Due to the win Davis has moved up three spots and is now ranked #3. The only women ahead of her are the #2 ranked Miesha Tate and #1 contender Cat Zingano. Davis is 2-0 now in the UFC and has won fours straight fights. In her Octagon debut at UFC 161 she worked her way to a decision win over Rosi Sexton.

As a result of the loss, Carmouche dropped three spots and is ranked #7. “Girl-Rilla” had scored a stoppage win over Jessica Andrade at UFC on FOX 8 leading into the bout.

In another interesting development, former welterweight contender Nick Diaz dropped three slots and is now ranked #9. Diaz hasn’t fought since he was decisioned by champion Georges St. Pierre in March, and it remains to be seen when the renowned fighter will fight again.
