Patrick Cote Eyeing August Return
French Canadian fighter Patrick Cote, who last fought Anderson Silva for the Middleweight title, is recovering well from a knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus. He reportedly came into the Silva fight with some damage to his knee, which eventually betrayed him during the bout, giving Cote a TKO loss and prompting the surgery that has kept Cote out of action since October.
Cote recently spoke to The Fight Network telling them that he is already doing preliminary conditioning and training, and that he expects to be training at full speed in around three weeks. In talking of potential opponents for his return Cote said, “I want to fight someone in the top-five or top-10, I want Alan Belcher or the winner of Rich Franklin vs. Wanderlei Silva.” He also mentioned a desire to fight Vitor Belfort if he were to return to the UFC, however there are no rumors regarding any possibility of Belfort returning to the promotion.

i suspect there arent many people that will agree but i would really like to see cote get a pretty quick shot at the title again since his fight was stopped do to injury and he never actually lost
I knew Patrick was gonna test this hot shot. Silva is awesome I’ll give him that but he not Patrick Cote. I agree he never lost ROUND # baby, Silva was a lil scared, That Belt was gonna change hands that night. Only one who could and still can take it is Patrick Cote.
Bubba- I admit I’m one that doesn’t agree, Anderson was toying w/ Cote in that fight. A rematch would only see Anderson try to prove he was just playing the first time. It’d be ugly.
Cote versus Wandi would definitely end in the first round. Both of those guys would swing for home runs and one would connect. Not saying Rich will lose I just don’t see Rich going back to middleweight. Will be glad to see Cote back though I do like him.
i definitely see where you are coming from but since his knee stopped the fight instead of anything else i wouldn’t mind cote getting a couple tune up fights in and then trying silva again
I must agree with chrisl – I really could care less about Cote. However I would like to see him fight either Nate the Great, or the winner of Hendo and Bisping. And I would not mind seeing him fight the winner of Rich vs. Wand either. All good fights for Cote to really test himself.
I’m escited that we’ll see Cote back soon. I feel bad for the guy, who knows what would have happened in his title fight with Silva if he had’nt got hurt. I can see many good matchups for him. One of you said Wanderlei, that sounds like a good satnd up fight.
Hey Bubba, I agree with you 100%. On paper Anderson Silva beats him 100 times out of 10, but when Silva actually attacked and connected in that fight, Cote took the shots and remained standing. He’s been the only guy that has been able to take those shots with Silva (in the UFC thus far) so win or lose, he proved he belonged there and should get another chance.
I will agree with you partly on that the “matt serra- buster douglas” argument will always hold water in MMA. I just think Silva would be more focused second time around. Leben took the bombs too for awhile before being separated from consciousness.
on paper…lol
100 times out of 10 nice
I agree figs, I think cote proved he can hang. I also get what you are saying chrisl, silva might be more focused second time around, but so will cote. If silva gets by leites coming up, either cote or maia will beat him, but I favor maia due to his insane/wicked ground game. good to see cote coming back, I thinik vitor will destroy him though, as well as wandy. Wandy dropping to 185 might make the real axe murderer come back a la his pride days.
will is a strong word haha.
COTE COTE COTE COTEEEEEE COTEEEEE COTTEEEE!!!! I DO THINK HE DESERVES ANOTHER SHOT BUT HE SHOULD PROBABLY FIGHT ANOTHER FIGHT BEFORE HE GETS A SHOT JUST TO BUILD HIM BACK UP
Canadian on canadian crime w/ MacDonald maybe? Wandi wouldn’t be a good welcome back fight haha.
hope he gets back to the title i think maybe to fights against top 5 guys if he wins title shot.
Good to see him back but he’ll get a title rematch right after chris leben does, so its probably never going to happen. I don’t ever see him beating maia, marquardt, Gouviea, hendo, hell even leben(roided or not). He got made a fool by Silva the entire match, it was just unfortunate he blew his knee up so we didnt see a finish.
Cote took some serious shots and kept on coming forward. Never was staggered and never dropped. All that came from Cote was smiles. Dudes chin is iron. Im glad he’s coming back and i think another fight or two and he’ll be right back in the title hunt. I’m a huge Marquardt fan and would love to see those two go at it. Cote would be scary if he had a better than average ground game
ya i don’t think cote would of won he must have a super-steel chin. hes only chance was to make it to knock him out which is very unlikely.
even though he was was the only one to make it the third round
Good for Cote for comming back rather early I hope he isnt rushing thing a bit too much, I can’t wait to see how he looks in the octagon…
It is also interesting reading (skiming) these comments and seeing how many fans of Cote wish that he will get a rematch against Silva, I still have the fight on my dvr and I will tell you that nothing he did in that fight showed me that he had a chance in hell of winning that specific fight… If you want to send him in to finalize the what if aspect of life, well friends Yushin Okami gets the first “what if” oppritunity soo I guess Cote will have to wait in line…. But it is interesting that on his first back you would throw him directly to a hungry lion.. But whatever…
Cote needs to impress and attempt to work back to being a top talent (if he ever really was? Not that he isn’t talented he just isn’t a top MW in the UFC or the World imo)
i do agree… cote has a chin made of iron.. but anderson was rockin him in that fight and he really was just toying with him… but i think he should get another fight under him before he gets considered for the title… heck give him belcher… if he gets by him make him fight Nate, Mia, Hendo or Bisping for number one contender…
Guys !! Guys guys guys guys……………..
In the last 7 fights of Anderson Silva NO ONE and I mean NO ONE
Rich Flankling included has gone more than 2 rounds with him.
Doesn`t that register in your minds ?????
At weight in of Cote Silva, Silva said…“This kid is NOT scared !!!“
During the fight….I saw Silva have the advantage sure…. but
I dont think he was toying. I think he knew he was in for a long fight.
I think he was more spreading his energy. Silva is smart.
I think that Cote was counting on his longevity in the fight to strike a Matt Serra on Silva.
And that is why “I“ wanna see another Cote Silva
That`s all folks.
