Six UFC 96 Fighters Issued Medical Suspensions
Six UFC 96 fighters have been issued medical suspensions by the Ohio Athletic Commission following their bouts on Saturday at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
Pete Sell, Mike Patt, and Jason Day each received 30-day precautionary suspensions for their UFC 96 TKO losses.
Gabriel Gonzaga and Mark Munoz were both issued 60-day suspensions following their knockout losses on the evening’s main card.
Ryan Madigan, who suffered a first-round knockout to Tamdan McCrory on the event’s preliminary card, has been suspended indefinitely due to an eye injury suffered in the bout and will have to be medically cleared before being eligible to return to action.

I’d hate to change the subject…but has anyone heard why ESPN fired Max Kellerman today?? Max is a huge MMA supporter (as well as boxing) and I really enjoyed his radio show in New York. Thanks, guys…
You should sign-up for the site and then you could talk about this in the forums which is a more appropriate location for this discussion.
The discussion of Kellerman that is.
Thanks, guys…unfortunately my work computer blocks certain sites. I’m a teacher, and the administration doesn’t want the kids on certain sites or the faculty on e-bay. Our blocker won’t let me register. Thanks, though…everyone on this site is always very helpful.
i cannot believe ganzaga was dropped like that. i heard about carwin last year, and ever since then I’ve known that he’s a top ten heavyweight. its unbelievable that he has knockout power with a straight right hand like the one he threw, if that guy catches you just once you’re done instantly haha.
ya and carwin ko’d gonzaga with like a ten inch punch and we all saw what can happen when carwin hits you with a fully set up cocked back punch using his hipsand butt tto throw the punch see (christian wellish)
Anyone else notice who isn’t on there… Rampage. IMO that opens it up for the Rashad-Rampage fight to be signed on. I think Machida deserves the shot but I don’t see Joe Silva passing up the marketing opportunity Rashad and Rampage provided.
They didn’t list Jardine or Jim Miller either and Miller was messed up by Maynard. Don’t know why they haven’t listed all yet or they haven’t finished examining everyone?
I don’t understand how Gonzaga and Munoz have the same suspension. I was there right along the fighter exit/entrance, and Gonzaga looked great after the fight. Gonzaga looked unscathed, and took more time for autographs and photos after the fight than any other fighter. I even got him and Carwin to sign my UFC glove. Munoz was dead in the ring for about 4 minutes, then got helped back to the showers wearing a neck brace. If you give Gonzaga 60, you need to give Munoz 90.
It’s standard precautionary procedure for knock outs actually. If a fight is stopped by TKO or KO it’s an automatic medical suspension. Actual KO’s get longer of course. Gonzaga could go to the doc tomorrow get a clean CT/MRI scan and be cleared to fight/train and the suspension would be lifted. Cuts/lacerations also have set times as well. It’s just a precaution instituted by the athletic commissions.
I understand that, I just don’t understand how Munoz got only 60. Munoz was OUT COLD for what seemed like minutes. Just a bit mind baffling is all.
