MMAFrenzy’s UFC Fight Night 32 preliminary card coverage kicks off with our recap of tonight’s opening trio of fights. Thiago Tavarez would prevail in the third fight of the night with a quick and effective attack. In other opening action, Adriano Martins, and Dustin Ortiz would pick up victories on the FS2 opening card.
Tavares Submits Salas
Thiago Tavares would pick up his first win since January of 2012 tonight with a submission victory over late replacement Justin Salas. The bout was Tavares’ first since being dropped by Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC on FX 7 and then being suspended for 9 months after testing positive for drostanalone. Tavares has now won three of his last four fights.
Martins Submits Cruickshank
Strikeforce veteran Adriano Martins looked impressive in his UFC debut tonight in Brazil as he defeated Daron Cruickshank. Martins worked hard to secure a submission whenever the fight hit the floor and he finally secured the finish by digging for a kimura before finishing with a straight armbar. Martins has now won six straight fights, while Cruickshank falls to 1-2 in his last three.
Ortiz Stops Maria
Tonight’s action would kick off in the flyweight division as UFC newcomer Dustin Ortiz took on Jose Maria Tome. While Ortiz would start slow, he began to take over as the fight wore on by reverting back to his wrestling base to seize control of the fight. Ortiz’s victory would be a bit anticlimactic however, as the fight was called when Maria complained to the official about strikes he thought were illegal. Ortiz gets his first UFC victory in his debut and runs his current streak to four while Tome has now lost in both of his UFC appearances after being undefeated in his last seventeen fights.
