UFC heavyweight Stipe Miocic was left without an opponent when Travis Browne was tapped to fight Josh Barnett at UFC 168. The talented fighter is reportedly eyeing a fight with former number one contender Gabriel Gonzaga according to tonight’s episode of UFC Tonight.
Gonzaga is coming off an impressive win over Shawn Jordan this past weekend at UFC 166. Gonzaga has gone 4-1 in his second stint with the UFC, with the lone loss coming against Travis Browne earlier this year at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale.
A pairing between Miocic and Gonzaga makes a lot of sense with the current status of both men and the UFC’s heavyweight division. Miocic has not fought since his dominant victory over Roy Nelson at UFC 161 but was expected to fight Browne at UFC on FOX 9 before the heavyweight was reassigned to UFC 168.
While the UFC has made no official pairing at this time, the bout could become reality in late-2013 or early-2014.
