Swick v. Saunders On Tap For Germany
The card for UFC 99 in Cologne Germany continues to take shape. Yesterday the addition of a welterweight fight between Mike Swick and Ben Saunders was confirmed by MMAWeekly. At this point the bout has been verbally agreed to, but no papers have been signed.
Both fighters were last in action at UFN 16: Fight for the Troops in December. On that night Swick gained a quick knockout victory over UFC veteran Jonathan Goulet, in just over thirty seconds. Saunders on the other hand issued a severe beating to UFC newcomer Brandon Wolff that lasted just under two minutes. Saunders had been slated to take part in the upcoming UFC 96 in Columbus, Ohio but was forced to withdraw due to a foot injury.
UFC 99 is expected to be headlined by a 195lb catch-weight bout between Rich Franklin and Wanderlei Silva. For more information on UFC 99, visit our UFC 99 Rumors page.

good fight although i wanted swick vs rumble. doesnt look like swicks getting his big comp like he was asking for.
oh hes gonna have competition if swick takes this fight lightly he will lose ben saunders is a huge rising star at ww….hes undeafeated and 3-0 in the ufc…a win over swick would put saunders one fight away from a title shot and a win for swick would give him one fight away from title shot…I could see this going either way but im thinking an upset by saunders could be the result i love swick but i kinda want saunders to win

yes i did daboss!…if you havent noticed saunders would be 5-0 if he wins his next two fights and his last two would be over swick and probably someone evn better if he beats swick….Im telling you if saunders beats swick look for saunders vs another top guy and then a title shot…….saunders is very underrated and is a very well rounded…im telling you just watch him
I have seen the dude fight and I think his last fight was spotless and to be fair he beat the guy up but, but when it comes to both UFC and WAMMA rankings Saunders wouldnt be top 10 or even 15 ranked at the moment that is, in my opinion Swick will be the guy with his hand raised and I dont think this will go to a decision, I dont think this fight will come out of round 2 actually, 3-0 4-0 or even 5-0 people like Fitch, Alves, Condit, Kos, Kampmann or even The Heat would do Killa B at the current time, if he does get through Swick id look at stepping him up (or down in some peoples opinions) again Serra, the guy isnt a big threat in the WW mix I dont think personally Gun, if he gets the W from Quick who would you like to see him fight after Gun?
Is this the battle of lanky WW’s? lol. Seriously though I think Swick is a huge contender at 170! He annihilated Johnathan Goulet, and now that he’s more accustomed to the weight he doesn’t seem to have lost any speed at all. Ben Saunders on the other hand is a big question mark for me. His ground game is really solid and in his last fight he destroyed that guys forehead for sure! But I want to see how he fairs against swick before I jump on board. Personally I think Swick beats him up pretty bad in this fight.

Ben Saunders will win this one, tough fight that it will be , he will use his new found clinch game to keep Swick close and distribute elbows, til the fight is waived off
Swick’s Muay Thai is really good! He’s trained in Thai Land for several months and on a number of occasions. His mother and he use to actually train CIA agents in self defense (Could have been Secret Service or FBI, Can’t remember.) So he’s no slouch in the Clinch.
O I understand these things, I just think that Ben is going to use his clinch a bit better, and I just kinda want to see Ben win hence Im a bit biased in my thought process I guess. Swick in Thailand, there are some good video’s of him training overthere and the one when he is F~ing with the snake is pretty good as well, never the less it should be a rather good fight to be seen.
I don’t know who to pick for this one, Saunders is dangerous everywhere, Swick is dangerous on the feet, and on top. I give the edge to Swick if they try to kickbox and work angles and all that, but if it goes to a clinch game I lean towards Saunders. I’m just expecting a good fight, though.
if swick can get off the punches in bunches its over for saunders….if he fights all gimpy and defensively he tends to do much worse.
swick may be able to catch goulet with a flury but saunders is much taller and has a better chin and is a better fighter than goulet was…..I really am feeling like saunders is gonna pull the upset here
I would have to put the word upset in quotations on that one, some people may view it as an upset, but I would only see it as an upset because Swick has a bigger name, not necessarily because he’s expected to be the better fight, I kind of think Saunders has more weapons than Swick.
I think so too, saunders has a sick clinch and will mess you up with those knees! It would be an upset cuz swick is a bigger name and swick is expected to win and considered by many a “top contender”. I think he’s got to face more competition and “better” competition to be in the top 5 or top 3. I’m only saying this because he wants a shot @ the title and i don’t think he deserves one yet. Hope saunders takes him out. I’m sick of the fact that the ufc doesn’t match up the american top team ww’s when they should clearly be facing eachother.

SWICK. All big name ww’s that should be fighting eachother. But just because they are “training buddies” they havent been matched up.
Not to be a spaz Jazz but American Top Team is based out of Florida… American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) is based out of San Jose,California and include the members that u just mentioned (Fitch,Kos, Swick)
Honestly, right now matching either one of those three against any one of the others wouldn’t make much sense. Maybe three months ago Kos v. Fitch made sense, but not now.
