White Comments on Future of Vera, Rothwell’s Suspension

Although Brandon Vera is coming off back-to-back stoppage losses to “Shogun” Rua and Ben Rothwell, and has just one win in his last five bouts, it looks as though “The Truth” remains on the UFC roster.

Dana White was asked about Vera’s status this week in Houston, and the UFC boss man reportedly relayed (quote via MMA

“I would imagine if he hasn’t been cut yet, he’s probably not getting cut.”

Perhaps part of the reason Vera is still with the promotion, is because Rothwell tested for elevated levels of testosterone following UFC 164. The bout will not be overturned to a no contest, however, as Rothwell only received an “administrative warning” from Wisconsin officials. The UFC took it up a notch, however, and suspended the fighter for nine months.

White was also asked to comment on Rothwell, who had been granted an exemption for TRT heading into the August 31st card, but still tested too high for testosterone.

“I told you guys, however long ago it was, what our stance on TRT was,” White said. “We have a position on TRT, and anybody, no matter where we are, we’re going to go after guys that are abusing TRT.

“When you’re a professional athlete, this stuff is serious s–t. You’d better know what’s going on with your own f–king body and what’s going in it.”

It was an unfortunate turn of events considering Rothwell’s memorable stoppage win. In 2011, Vera lost to Thiago Silva at UFC 125, but the bout was overturned after the latter falsified his urine sample
