UFC 166’s pay-per-view opener took place in the flyweight division as John Dodson took on Darrell Montague. The two top tier flyweights engaged in a violent bout that saw the former UFC number one contender victorious.
Dodson Destroys Montague
John Dodson made his first trip to the Octagon since his loss to UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and the Team Jackson fighter certainly kept himself in the title picture. Dodson dropped Montague multiple times tonight in Houston and the second proved the coup de grâce after Montague face planted in the Octagon. The Ultimate Fighter 14 champion improved to 4-1 in the Octagon with the victory.
Rd. 1- Dodson opens up the striking but Montague counters with legkicks. Nice power legkick by Montague and Dodson responds in kind. Nice left-right combo by Dodson. Crowd is booing already and it is not deserved. Big legkick by Dodson. Massive right by Dodson and Montague somehow survives but gets taken down. Montague pops up and he gets swarmed. Montague tries a desperation takedown and slows down the fight but Dodson connects again as he stands. Montague appears to have shaken it off and Dodson wisely stays patient. Wicked left hand by Dodson causes a delayed faceplant by Montague and the ref dives in as Dodson finishes it off.
