Injured Bowles Withdraws From WEC 40 Main Event; Mizugaki To Fight Champ Torres
Bantamweight contender Brian Bowles has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled title shot against WEC champion Miguel Torres that was to headline WEC 40 on April 5th in Chicago after suffering a back injury during a Monday training session.
Bowles is expected to be sidelined for several months as a result of the injury. He’ll be replaced in the bout by 11-2-2 Shooto and Cage Force veteran Takeya Mizugaki.
Following a four-fight winless streak that saw him go 0-2-2, Mizugaki rebounded with a five-fight winning streak, including stoppages in his three most-recent bouts.
Regarded as one of the sport’s top pound-for-pound fighters, Torres captured the title with a first-round submission of Chase Beebe last February and has since successfully defended the belt against Yoshiro Maeda and Manny Tapia.

Ah, mother eff-er. This stinks.
Still 6 weeks til this fight, so must have been a pretty serious injury. Was looking forward to this one too.
That sucks for Bowles, I wonder when we might find out some of the details of the injury.
At least Torres, has a little time to prepare for the new challenger. That stinks that Bowles had to get injured but that’s part of the sport. I think that Torres would beat him though anyway IMO. I’m “Guessing” that he will be out for some time since the back takes a while to recuperate.
