Bellator 109 Features Volkov vs. Minakov, Riddle’s Return

Vitaly Minakov

Bellator MMA will head to the Sands Bethlehem Event Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for Bellator 109. Headlining the November 22 fight card will be a Bellator heavyweight title fight between Alexander Volkov and 2013 Summer Series champion Vitaly Minakov. Bellator MMA officials recently announced the November fight card.

Four-time SAMBO World Champion and 2013 Summer Series champion Vitaly Minakov carries an unblemished record into his title shot that includes a dominant three-fight run in Bellator MMA. Minakov has only been to decision once in his career, using heavy hands and strong grappling to wreak havoc on his opponents.

Taking on Minakov will be Bellator MMA heavyweight champion Alexander Volkov. “Drago” also holds a perfect 3-0 record in the Bellator cage, with a 19-3 mark overall. Volkov has risen through the ranks using his superior reach and kickboxing to tally a ten-fight win streak, defeating Richard Hale for the vacant title at Bellator 84.

Also joining the Bellator 109 card will be Pennsylvania’s own Matt Riddle. “Deep Waters” had previously stated that he would retire after being knocked off the Bellator 100 card due to injury. Riddle recently told MMAJunkie that he would be returning to the Bellator MMA cage after a short retirement.

Tickets for Bellator 109 are currently on sale, with more bouts expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The November 22 card will air live via Spike TV at 9PM ET.
