The UFC’s annual Super Bowl fight card was made official yesterday as the promotion officially announced UFC 169: Jones vs. Teixeira. The annual Super Bowl card will take place February 1 in Newark, New Jersey and be headlined by UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones taking on Glover Teixeira.
Joining Teixeira and Jones on the February fight card will be a heavyweight scrap between Alistair Overeem and Frank Mir. While the two were initially expected to face off at UFC 167 this November, Newsday reports the bout will take place this February instead. UFC officials have since confirmed that report and announced that welterweights Tyron Woodley and Josh Koscheck will fill the void on the card.
While FOX Sports originally tried to wrangle the February fight card onto the FOX Network, the fight card will air as a pay-per-view card. More bouts are expected to be named in the coming weeks.
