Sonnen to Silva: “Accosting a Gangster Can be Hazardous”

Chael Sonnen

Since Wanderlei Silva released another video recently, where he confronted Chael Sonnen at a Mr. Olympia Expo event, the fact “The American Gangster” is set to fight Rashad Evans has been kind of lost in the mix. After all, it was just the latest in a series of call-outs, insults and interactions between Sonnen and Silva, which has most fans hoping the two will eventually fight.

Of course, it seems clear that Sonnen and Silva aren’t the bestest buddies, but personally, I thought the most recent confrontation seemed off, as in staged. In the latest edition of “UFC Tonight”, here’s what Sonnen had to say about his widely discussed run-in with Silva.

“I’m all for him having a little fun. But a little advice: if you’re going to do a publicity stunt, do not bring your own camera, it looks staged. It insults your audience. Accosting a gangster can be hazardous. If you want to have a conventional interview, we at UFC TONIGHT will pay your way to come on the show.”

That’s an interesting take on it. Silva has relayed that he still wants to fight Sonnen regardless of how his November 16th bout with Evans goes down. While the UFC is probably interested in making Silva-Sonnen happen, the latter might want to face another top 205’er if he beats Evans. You never know. That would mean he’s scored wins over two former champs in back-to-back bouts (the other being “Shogun” Rua).

Then again, Silva-Sonnen already has a ton of hype behind it, and the American continues to do his part in promoting the match-up. Guess we’ll find out in a couple of months.
