Diego Sanchez attempts a flying knee against Joe Stevenson at UFC 95

Diego Sanchez was victorious in his lightweight debut at UFC 95, topping Joe Stevenson via unanimous decision on Saturday in London. Newcomer Paulo Thiago upset welterweight contender Josh Koscheck via first-round knockout on a card filled filled with stoppages.

Dan Hardy is likely to receive a step up in competition for his next bout after dispatching of Rory Markham with punches in just over one-minute in the evening’s co-main event.

Middleweight contenders Nate Marquardt and Demian Maia may be on a collision course after both picked up impressive victories over Wilson Gouveia and Chael Sonnen respectively at UFC 95.

$40,000 fight night bonuses were awarded to four UFC 95 fighters for their performances at the event. Sanchez and Steveson received “Fight of the Night” honors, Thiago earned “Knockout of the Night”, and Maia received the “Submission of the Night” award.

The event’s full results were:

  • Diego Sanchez def. Joe Stevenson via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)

A good night of fights thats forsure a really awesome free card, well just a awesome card anyways

  • DaNNyBoY says:

yes very good card, im glad joe daddy lost is it me or was he laughin the whole time? it seemed like he wasnt in the fight and there more for entertaining the crowd…dan hardys standup was vicious, demian maia may be the only one to stop silva, and junior dos santos is for real. overall very good card for free

  • fr702 says:

Kos getting dropped was personally awesome to see, but he should have won that fight and was doing soo then oops dunn got caught, early stoppage perhaps?

Markham got hit in the temple really hard, and the Hardy kid well did pretty damn good with making sure the fight was finshed

Nate v Gouviea well, neither one looked like they could stand in the cage with Anderson, two and a half rounds of fighting at that pace and they both started to gas, but for what it is worth it was a really nice finish for Nate, Wilson’s eye looked awful

Maia, well thank you sir for doing what I really thought you could do, and damn it was pretty

Diego you’re a weird dude, Joe step your game up son… Was a really entertaining fight imo

Dos Santos v the loser of Carwin v GG? hell the winner it doesnt matter to me, he just needs to step up in comp

  • Jaymz says:

Yeah, good card.Kos and Markham ko’s were unexpected.Rudeboy took a major beating too.Maia didn’t disappoint.Only complaint was like Gar said, the commercials.More specifically how they cut to commercial as soon as the fights ended before showing replays, bit of a buzzkill.Overall good show though.

    • fr702 says:

Really the commercials were pretty sorry as given in any sport really, and quite honestly its wasnt unexpected was it? Most major sporting events have quite a few commericials and this is no different, hell it was free with top known fighters from the best org in the world… We saw ko’s and Maia do his thing, some suprises and a good battle, hell we even saw a wrestler get kicked in the head after asking for it for over 5 minutes..

      • Jaymz says:

True enough, just woulda liked to see a replay right away before commercials.Like I said,a bit of a buzzkill.Watched the live broadcast and they did the same thing. The tape delay on Spike was actually worse(more commercials).Good card though.

      • GarRule says:

I think we’re SO used to their format, that any little change sticks out. The flow felt different when they went RIGHT to commercial after the fight was over. Also, the pre-fight intros/promos were much longer than usual…just an observation. I’ll take that any day of the week over a weak PPV like 94. Plus, we got to see all of those other fights.

I don’t think Koz suffers too big a set-back after that uppercut. I’d say there’s about a 1 in 20 shot going into a fight that the other guy’s gonna get a lucky shot in. I think UFC knows that.

STILL…considering the way BJ and Florian man-handled “Daddy”, I thought Sanchez would have done more…I guess he really didn’t have to!

  • huertarogerhuerta says:

that spinning backfist right hand combo marquardt pulled off was sick highlight of my day great fights. the commercials is exactly y i watched the live stream earlier on here.

  • fr702 says:

Well I scored 138 was 101 out of 17447 and 3rd out of the group…

Maia’s toss of Sonnen immediately into the triangle was my personal highlight but whatever

  • B W says:

I agree, great night of fights. I thought kos’s fight was stopped to early. Yes he was hurt, but I would have liked to see thiago get into his guard and see is kos could have recovered, or he would have eaten a couple more punches and then have it stopped. Fine line, I know. That stacker energy drink commercial was super annoying. Watch men didn’t do much for me. Diego wasn’t as impressive as I thought he might be at LW. That skyscrapper got torn down fast. Pour kid looked lost. I don’t think he did one offensive move. First time jitters probably.

  • fr702 says:

hahaha that stacker commerical was retarded to say the least

Joe Stevenson, said that he wants a rematch with Sanchez, and he thought it was a fair decision

  • Carls says:

Wow what a night of fights

1.Hope Neil grove’s knee is ok his opponent chris looked smaller than marquardt. meh
2.Dos santos is a beast who needs to be tested. stefan struve should try basketball jk
3.welcome aboard dunham he should fight matt veach.
4.Etim deffinately looked good man what an accent. him and neer would be interesting. Cobb looked overwhelmed.
5.Tough loss for Kos he was lookin to take thiago’s head off. nice leg kicks too. Paulo’s still undefeated and sports the best uni-brow in the UFC. wonder who they fight next?
6.Am i the only one who wants to see maia and palhares. Good job demian your title shots coming? sonnen looked like he coulda cried. make him fight jason macdonald
7.Wow nate looked explosive but also very cautious of wilsons ko power
quite the finish as well. I liked the round house spinning back fist to bad it didnt land. Gouveia just seemed to get out worked and a little slow, which i guess is usually the case for him.
8.That was a phantom left hook from hardy, very nice. I liked how they were both showing off their footwork at the start of the round. lol.
9.Never knew joe had that good of a chin i almost started pullin for him he just looked like he was having fun. Great fight nonetheless.Sherk and Sanchez would be awesome but they would likely be saving that fight as a possible future title fight. IMO

Final Thoughts: these free shows never seem to let ya down. And it looks like a lot of people want a title shot against Anderson Silva; nate, maia, bisping and henerson have been said to be in the mix, people have even mentioned belfort. Well get in line evrybody.

  • B W says:

Maia looked great. I thought his striking looked pour in the past, but looked good tonight. His subs are just sick. He’s quickly becoming one of my favorites. Nate’s combo to finish was sick. I think Anderson will still make quick work of him.

  • justin says:

First off, the obligatory “great night of fights”… I still have it on the DVR, and will watch it again I’m sure.

Kos getting KOed: well, I’m glad to see it, but I was expecting him to win this fight. The stoppage may have been a bit premature, but he looked pretty out to me when he hit the ground. It wouldn’t be the first time a guy got shut off, and then came back and thought he was never out. For Thiago, tidy up that striking a bit, but way to make an impact out the gate.

Maia over Sonnen: Still think you can beat A. Siva, you arrogant… person.

Grove: I hope he gets his knee taken care of properly, that was ugly… I thought he would do better, but I did know his ground game was his weakness, so…

Dos Santos: Thanks for another great showing.

Dunham: Nicely done, way to show that killer instinct.

Hardy: Wow. I hope they give him a step up, without feeding him to the real sharks, which I think they will do, he’s got a lot of potential.

Etim v. Cobb: I really hoped Cobb would do well, but didn’t have high expectations. Props to the guy for taking the fight on short notice, I hope he learns a lot from this experience and finds some success in his next outting. Etim did a good job at outclassing Cobb, but to really move up the ranks he’s going to have to be able to do more than just stall on the ground.

Marquardt v. Gouveia: I think that Nate Marquardt would have gotten KOed by A. Silva too. He’s gotten better, but not that much better. Gouveia’s a tough guy, but he needs to keep working on the conditioning. He’s still a dangerous outing for anyone trying to come up the MW ladder.

Sanchez v. Stevenson: Great fight, I really enjoyed watching this one three losses in a row sucks for Stevenson, but I don’t think he’ll be seeing the boot. Sanchez wasn’t as impressive as I thought he would be, and I think he would lose to KenFlo or BJ at this point. He may be able to beat Sherk if he can keep it standing. I do think Sanchez fits in the top 5 LWs, but just where I’m not sure.

    • fr702 says:

There is NO WAY that Sanchez is in the top ten in the LW division, hell I dont even think he deserves to fight Sherk… Diaz v Sanchez asap imo… It was a good fight forsure

I still have it on my dvr and will be watching again forsure also

      • justin says:

        Well.. UFC LW division.

      • fr702 says:

Edgar, Fisher, Kenflo,Franca,Guida,Miller,Lauzon,Pellegrino, Sherk, Stevens,Diaz, Danzig, Maynard and ofcourse Penn… No specific order except for Penn being #1 and KenFlo #2…. Those imo are higher up on the ladder than Sanchez after his first fight.. Now does he have the “potential” to be at the top in a bit ya but he didnt prove it tonight.. And yes it was a exciting fight, yet neither one did anything to solidify their specific spot in the LW division

      • justin says:

Eh… good point, I guess I may have jumped the gun a little bit. Though part of that was based off of Joe Daddy’s position prior to this 0-3 run.

      • fr702 says:

No worries Justin, I wasn’t attacking you just backing my point kinda sorta

      • justin says:

I know, that’s how we roll man… crap I just typed that, I should probably get to bed soon…. but anyways. I hadn’t thought that far ahead, though I do think that if Sanchez can do some GnP on the guys in the division that have a weaker take down defense like we’ve seen him do at WW in the past, plus the new and improved striking, I think he’d be well able to pick off a few names on that list, like Danzig and Diaz, probably batman, probably Guida good fight with Sherk… probably Miller would beat him…Franca I dunno Lauzon, I dunno. But I guess that’s all based on “potential” not what he’s actually shown.

      • fr702 says:

        ya what you said, haha

      • Dr.Doom says:

I’d have to say He’s about the 3rd best lightweight in the UFC personally , behind florian and Penn .. and that will change as his experience against UFC LW’s grows . Him and Sherk would be a good start . As for the whole LW picture I’d say he’s around the 7th spot . they should let him go to Japan for a few fights against someone like kawajiri or JZ Calvan and then bring him back to see about offing penn .

  • fr702 says:

Mini tourney for the MW division

    Hendo v Bis
    Maia v Nate

Winner v Winner= shot at Anderson, but allow Okami to fight Anderson in between these, imo this is the only way to get a true #1 contender…

Maia will most likely be champ at some point.. Even tho his standup did look better he really needs to continue to work on his boxing, hell his ground game is phenominal as is..

Kos wow he just took a large step back in the divsion, maybe he took this fight lightly i dunno

    • timcat says:

They don’t need a mini tourney. Maia deserves a shot right now. I really think Anderson Silva can be had on the ground and Maia is just the guy to do it. Henderson had his shot and lost, so did Marquardt. Bisping is not ready yet and the natural progression is Maia.

  • Jerod says:

What I love about Damian Maia is his grounded attitude. Too often are the guys in their interviews popping off saying this and that about how they are going to pisspound their opponents, and then we have a guy like Maia whose, by all admissions of his own, favorite technique is making his opponent submit without having to hurt him. He is always preaching BJJ as the “gentle art” and its such a breath of fresh air to see a guy be this successful and still keep such a humble and grounded approach. He is very easy to root for. And he makes it that much more easier by pulling off yet another MacGyver-esque submission. The guy creates submissions like no other. Give him a Q-tip and the 6 of spades and he will turn it into a nasty submission.

    • fr702 says:

nicely said, the q~tip thing kinda funny too

    • Josh V says:

He kind of embodies the idea in BJJ that you “give a little to gain a lot”. By that I mean BJJ teaches you to “give a little” in your positioning in order to secure something deadly. I like his attitude, that he wants to compete without hurting anybody. That said – Dude – need to work on the boxing, kicks, etc. Don’t want to give your ENTIRE gameplan away. Balanced fighter = smart fighter = winner.

      • GarRule says:

Actually, I felt that all of the Brazilian fighters showed a lot of class. I thought Thiago could have knocked Koz’ head off and he pulled up before the ref even stepped in. Same thing with Maia…he felt the tap and let loose before the ref jumped in. Good night to be Brazilian!!

  • nightmare says:

i thought that was funny they were saying thiago had a problem facing kosheck then BOOM! he knocks him out.

i thought sanchez had a very dominating performance now he should face another top contender by the time of KENFLO vs bj penn and if he wins that fight he should face the champ.

nate and maia were good performances next they sould face around the time of ufc 100 were bisping and Hendo are likely but the winner of that will get the next title shot so winner of nate vs maia vs the loser of bisping and hendo then title shot.

i liked hardy’s knockout he needs to face som top contender and maybe consider a title shot.

santos won by a ko/tko like i thought he needs to face top guys he knocked out werdum his first finght in UFC!

everything else was exciting and could end up great in ufc i thought that heelhook was nasty

some say this card was pointless but people from this card are working there way up to a title shot

    • justin says:

Hardy is moving up, and yeah he needs to face stronger competition, but title shot is a stretch. I still put Alves, Hughes, Serra, Fitch, Rumble, and maybe a few others ahead of him at 170. I don’t think they’d give him to Rumble because I think the UFC would like to see both guys coming up right now, but maybe a match against Kevin Burns.

  • seemore says:

diego looked pretty good, but that was coupled with joe not doing much. Kos gettign knocked out was a little shock, but thats the game. marquart, great combo…good fights for free…

  • Monkeyfly says:

Entry music of the night definitely goes to Markham and Hardy. I know that Markham’s was Amazing Grace by the Dropkick Murphys. Anybody know what The Outlaw used?

  • nightmare says:

i thought kos kockout call was good i dont think he was gonna recover he was just going to be pounded. the ref didn’t know anyway he got dropped and the ref hurried to stop more damage

  • nightmare says:

i think sanchez needs to work on wrestling so he can groung and pound if he can take anybody down in LW he will GnP a victory

  • russiandoeboi says:

    very good fight.
but to put it in perspective
    penn would destroy either fighter

  • russiandoeboi says:

the thiago kos fight deserves a rematch.

thiago obviously realized there is a weakness in kosheck’s 1 armed overhand right style, and that he could count on at least one or 2 full on upper cuts, and the left hook as the perfect follow up.

kos will hopefully learn from this. the stoppage was crop thoguh to be sure,

but that’s not the point – at least if kos wants to get better. kos displayed some nice kicks and should try to make his game more versatile and less predictable.

  • russiandoeboi says:

while the knockdown was heavy duty. kos was looking ready to pull guard and had hi hand up in front.

    • dbiz says:

Kos hit the ground limp, banged his head off the mat, leg rigid and raised with blank eyes. He was OUT, if only for a second. Had Thiago jumped on him instead of REALIZING he was out, Kos goes to the hospital and is on medical suspension for 4 months.

  • timcat says:

Koscheck was out. I don’t see an early stoppage. He took that dude way too lightly. I don’t think it was worthy of KO of the night though. That had to go to Evan Dunham.

Maia is a beast. That dude is goibg to be the champ and I mean soon. He has what it takes to beat Silva.

Nate looked good as always unless he faces Anderson Silva. Thats ok Rich Franklin is the same way.

Diego is a beast and will do damage in the LW division. I think he is in the top 10 LW even though he had only 1 fight there. You tell me who
he can’t beat there. Already beat Florian, Would kill Grey Maynard, Smoke Tyson Grifin, and Dominate Nate Diaz.

  • ufcmanz says:

It looks like everyone is on the same page with Dos Santos he needs a step up in Com. Like Kongo or winner of Carwin vs. GG. WOW was that Kos KO sweet..I like Diego more when he was a GNP’er. like the fight he had against Nick Diaz was a amazing fight. he really needs to get back into wrestling cause it even seems like he can take anyone down any more

  • B Free says:

THat hand Kos was waving up after his a$$ got knocked down was him saying “For the love of god don’t hit me anymore!” He was out cold, i would of liked to see him gotten some follow up shots though, even Thiago knew Kos was out. Kos was very disrespectful how he pulled his hand from the ref during the announcing of the winner, taking some of the light away from Thiago.

Marquardt/ Gouviea was awesome, i thought Gouviea was going to get Nate in the first and then he got tired. That spinning back and front fist combo was sick, i think you can do that with Zangief in street fighter 2

Stevenson and Diego hmmm big daddy has to stop smiling and start to learn some standup technique. Give Deigo to Guida and that will show him if he is a top 5 competitor, or Diaz i liked that idea too FR

Other thoughts that 6 11″ dude looked scared out of his mind, Grove didn’t look good at all but i hope his knee isnt to messed up, Sonnen got embarrassed by Maia that was a thing of beauty, Hardy was great maybe we’ll see by the end of the year who is the best fighter from britain with hardy and bisping, maybe im out of line with that statement though. oh sweet mohawk too

    • whatever says:

Yup, loved watching Kos get ko’d. He looked like a baby crying after, he was out.

    • justin says:

Hardy fights at 170, Bisping’s at 185. Besides that it wouldn’t make sense for the UFC to pit two rising British stars against one another, if you do that, one of them loses their luster (almost) guaranteed. I think they’ll be fighting people from other countries for a while.

I do think Guida is generally a good test for people, but I think Diego is above his level… that said I still think it’s a good match-up and gives a good measuring stick for Diego, as well as an opportunity to knock Guida down a notch, since a lot of people aren’t fans of his style.

Struve should have been scared… Dos Santos was coming off of knocking Werdum out of the UFC. I think Struve may still have some potential, but he needs the right opponent.

  • nightmare says:

agreed that nate combination at the end was amazing. diego will do great at lightweight who is his next victim? he needs one more good contender fight at ufc 100ish where kenflo and bj penn will fight so if diego beats his next person face the loser of kenflo and bj penn then title shot but then the champ would fight for a while. so this i how i think its going to go

sherk vs edgar at ufc 98
kenflo vs bj penn at ufc 99
sanchez vs maynard/neer/guida at ufc 100 or 99

if sherk wins i think he’ll get a rematch. i would like maynard to face guida. so neer vs sanchez then the winner of neer vs sanchez will face the winner of maynard vs guida winner gets the next title shot.

Sanchez needs to work on his wrestling.

    • dbiz says:

diego will do great at lightweight who is his next victim? he needs one more good contender fight at ufc 100ish where kenflo and bj penn will fight so if diego beats his next person face the loser of kenflo and bj penn then title shot
      —–
Jesus, could your bromance be any more obvious?

  • Gonzo says:

    timcat and Bfree,

You are right on about Kos. He was out. Maybe in the USA he would have been given an extra 2 seconds to recover. But the left punch on the way down, rocked his brain for sure.

Chael Sonnen was a big disapointment. I expected a lot more from the last “185lb WEC champ.” (I know Filho didn’t make weight)

Nate Marquardt was very dominant. I hope he gets a title shot for the winner on Silva vs. Leitas.

Diego Sanchez vs Joe Stevenson was awesome. I would have loved to see this in a 5 round title bout. It looked like Joe was coming on at the end.

The fight card was just above a UFC Fight Night card, but the fights were better than advertised. I wouldn’t have paid $45 to watch it at home, though, I would have gone to Hooters to watch it, just like all the other UK cards.

  • Turk says:

Awesome fights, Sanchez looked like a rabid animal foaming at the mouth [maybe dehydrated] as he said YES, YES ,YES,YES, enough said. I still think Florian or BJ would beat him though. Maia is a stud like I already knew, not sure if his striking is good enough for Anderson. Big “Goofy” should not even be in the UFC. The sport isn’t made for limbs that long, sorry bud. Marquardt’s flying knee was sweet. He seemed to be kinda running around though. I know its smart when a guy is that aggressive to move away and counter, just would have liked to see them bang a lil bit more great fight though. Kos was out, good stoppage. Didn’t look as bad until the replay his eyes were rolling around in his skull, damn wanted him to win too. Final word, ” The Red Rooster” Hardy got my attention with that left hook, that being said the top of the WW would pry make short work of him. Give em the winner of Condit/Kampmann.

  • nightmare says:

    now for MW

anderson silva vs leites at UFC 97
hendo vs bisping at UFC 100
nate vs maia at UFC 99-100ish
    dollaway vs alan belcher (maybe)

then hendo vs bisping will get next title shot at that time the winner of nate and maia vs winner dollaway and belcher maybe (couldn’t think of other fighters that might be worthy of a title shot) will get the next title shot.

    • Jerod says:

With Anderson/Leites fighting at UFC 97, the winner should have time to be available at UFC 100ish. If Hendo/Bisping and Maia/Marquardt both take place around that time, the title will have to wait that much longer to be defended since Maia/Marquardt/Hendo/Bisping will need time to train. I think Dana and Joe Silva need to decide quickly whether its gonna be Marquardt or Maia and have him fight for the title around UFC 100ish. That way the title doesn’t sit idle while we fight over #1 contendership. So I really hope Maia and Marquardt do not fight each other next. Give one of ‘em a title shot instead. They both deserve it.

    • justin says:

winner of Nate vs. Maia facing either Dollaway or Belcher would be a huge step down, as a matter of fact, loser of Nate v. Maia facing Dolloway or Belcher would be a huge step down. Those two would need to at least beat a Ricardo Almeida, or Palhares, or Horn to be considered for maybe thinking about fighting Maia or Marquardt.

  • Jerod says:

Does Joe Daddy now need to be concerned about his job security? He now has lost 3 of 4 and the axe has been falling hard and fast around the UFC lately. I understand his “strength of schedule” has been about as brutal as anybody’s lately, but I don’t know that he shouldn’t at least consider reviewing his resume just in case.

  • Turk says:

Bro, Dollaway or A.K.A. “Stinky” as I like to call him since he always looks like some thin stinks would get mauled by any of the guys you mentioned above. What about Leben, Okami or someone with a little more clout in the UFC.

  • Turk says:

Imo Joe “Daddy” still can put people in the seats so I would be surprised if he gets cut for this as Nightmare is coming down in weight. Although Dana said before the fight that it’s a big step down for the loser as you might expect

    • B W says:

I don’t think he will get cut either. I’m personally not a fan, but his only losses have come to top contenders and champ. I don’t think that he would deserve to get cut from that. But the UFC has surprised me a time or two. And I am mainly referencing Werdum, most the other cuts have been ok.

  • Eye-Rhyme says:

that kos fight was not stopped early….he was out…u could tell by the way he jus threw his arms up….he was done!!!!!

    • B W says:

I agree he was out. That doesn’t mean that he could not have recovered, he wasn’t out cold. As we did see, he got up real quick. I just think they should have given him a chance to see if he could have defended himself on the ground, even if it would have been on just pure instinct. These guys train their bodies to recover as quickly as possible. I don’t want to see anyone take any unnecessary shots, I just think, and know Kos would agree, that if given a chance to get Paulo in his guard, he could have extended the fight. The guy takes another uncontested punch or two, fine, justified. And I understand that the ref is right there, looking out for the fighter and what not, but I personally still think it ended early. We see time and time again, fighters right on the edge of being stopped, they were rocked very bad, and come back to continue fighting. And I know they all say they are fine after it gets stopped, but imo he could have gone a little longer.

  • B W says:

Just a reminder to some. Joe Daddy is not on a 0-3 run. He had a win against Gleison Tibau between the loss to BJ and Ken-Flo. But none the less he has lost 3 of last 4 and yeah thats not good.

  • B Free says:

this is kind of off topic

What the hell were those 6 hour energy commercials!? they were absolutely stupid and an offensive. i, by any means, dont consider myself a prude at all but those commercials were just retarded! i think those commercials brought a bad light to the ufc. If i had kids and they saw that i would have turned the tv off. If UFC is trying to make their name better they did horribley showing that crap on their programming. Its crap like that that won’t get mma in new york and other states that have banned mma. THe UFC is also trying to say that their athletes are not blood thirsty gladitors, but they start each and every event with a guy getting dressed up like a gladitor. Bad marketing yesterday for the UFC, it was good thing that the fights were amazing.

  • russiandoeboi says:

kos looked clear eyed. arm up not flar (although he sure landed that way. i figure based on the way he landed he looked toasted- but 2/3 sec later – he was looking ready to defend.
i forgive the ref – i’d rather see an early stoppage than a great fighter get injured, but i’m just saying – there wasn’t even one shot that was undefended, and thiago hadn’t even mounted and didn’t even seem to be poised for the finish.
it was looking one sided but at that moment it became a great fight because if kos had continued he’d have to rethink quick
so a rematch is in order-

  • nightmare says:

i dont think so well not soon anyway. i thought it was a good stoppage after he was getting droppe the ref was running to stop it so he didn’t look to see if he was recovering. thiago wasn’t attacking at the end becuase he was sure he was out or the ref was going to stop it.

  • nightmare says:

what i see at HW next is

frank mir vs brock lesnar at ufc 98
    for HW title

    gonzaga vs shane carwin—————–I I————–I
    I———I TITLE SHOT I
Junior dos Santos vs cain Velasquez—–I I————–I

    • nightmare says:

the winners of gonzaga and shane carwin vs the winner of juior dos santos vs cain velasquez for the next title shot.

      —————————————————————————

after that we need nogeria, couture, kongo (if he kepts winning impressivly) to fight each other for title shot.

I think all UFC champs vs. Fedor for UFC 100. I’m taking Fedor via using BJ.Penn as a baseball bat to know everyone else out then breaking his back over his knee. Also I am predicting he only gets hit 3 times and brock Lesnar actually ****s his pants from getting his so hard in the face.

it was a very good card made for some good fights. on the whole i think we saw what was pretty much expected (kosheck fight aside).
    josh got caught….(who cares :/).
we first saw dos santos smacking the crap out of those pads in danas blog before the werdum fight and his striking looked scary then. the 2 fights since just reaffirmed how truly sick his striking his. coming for noguieras camp i doubt he has the jits weakness that so often accompanies the sicker strikers. he is certainly looking like a blank check at the moment. i share the same surname as dan hardy so i was always going to be cheering him on (im also english), i think its far to early to be expecting a great deal from the guy though, i think a big majority of fighters now hold that kind of shot in their arsenal if the right situation arrives. sanchez has made the right decision moving down, he is now a big fish in a medium pond, rather than a medium fist in a big pond. he simply outclassed joe daddy. sanchez will do well at 155, weird kid though!…. last thing i have to add is, you gotta love paul kellys character :P .

  • Jazzkok says:

I don’ think the kos stoppage was premature. DId you guys see the replay? Kos was so out, thiago could have landed 3 or 4 solid shots to really put him to sleep.

It would be sick if marquardt faces maia for a title shot, then after hendo beats bisping he can get his shot.

    • russiandoeboi says:

      rematch w. different ref.
IMO he was alert and ready to defend – judging from the last 1/2 second, the look ,posture and distances
thiago would have gotten in koschecks guard, and to assume more makes a donkey out of you and me

      • willyd says:

No need for a rematch, Kos lost plain and simple. They always say don’t leave it in the hands of the judges/refs, we’ll always keep your guard up too. Kos relies on the overhand right too much and has a sloppy jab. ASSuming that Thiago would have gone into Kos’s guard, only makes you look like a donkey. Thiago walked up to Kos and looked down before the ref jumped in, if he would have went in like Rampage on Wandi, Kos would have easily taken 2-3+ punches to the face.

      • nightmare says:

he wasn’t alert he was just putting hands up becuase he should no he doesn’t want to get hit even though he was dazzed

  • bigchris2328 says:

Looking at the kos fight in full speed, he didnt look like he was out cold, thankfully he landed on his back, had he landed on his side there would be no doubt the fight was over. However looking at it in slow motion when that uppercut hit him he was out cold. Had it not been for the second punch there wouldnt be any debate about a quick stop. Sucks for kos though, he was doing well and I wouldve liked to see a Kos vs Fitch fight with the winner getting a title shot, but that idea is down the crapper.
How about Maia!!! The guy is just amazing. He will be the one to beat the spider. His bjj and subs are top 3 in the world, argurably number 1. Silva’s isnt. However Silva’s handlers will duck the fight until next december. I dont get that… Silva wants to be the top fighter in the world, but he ducks the big names. 205 is loaded and he could make a run there, but its too dangerous and he would get ko’d by Wandy, Rampage, or Evans. Or submitted by Machida. GSP already had a mega fight, but him and Silva will exceed any amount of money that any previous card has made. Easy 10 mil, that card will sell out in a matter of hours. I would love to see GSP destoy Silva, but Silva has a reach advantage over GSP, and I would hate to see him lose. Please make GSP and Silva fight if Maia and Silva does not happen. I would love to also see Silva vs. Fedor. Just some food for thought, that fight would be interesting.
Nate the great, and Hendo, have already got shots at Silva and both lost. They shouldnt get a shot before Maia. Dana please do me a favor and have Maia fight more than once or twice a year, the guy is awesome. Give him a title shot. Or bring over Cung Le and let him pick apart Silva. Cote showed the blueprint on how to beat the spider. He was doing well until he blew his knee.
Overall the card was amazing. It beat the hell out of UFC 94, the only two good things about 94 to me were: BJ getting destroyed and Nate Diaz losing to Clay Guida. Diaz and BJ are two guys who think they are the best, but they both lost.

    • dbiz says:

Can we drop the Cung Le fallacy, please? Put the boy on the ground in any fashion and he’s done in minutes. He has ZERO ground game. He’s a non-factor, especially since he fights once a year at most. If he decides to be a man and actually fight, maybe he’ll eventually earn a shot in the UFC, but I see him as 4 fights before a title shot there, and he’d better hope Maia isn’t one of them or he’ll get choked out worse than Sonnen did.

    • nightmare says:

cung le would do good against silva. maybe pull out with a UD unless he catches him with a head kick

maia could have a chance to submit.

nate has a chance if he catches him with a shot.

  • bigchris2328 says:

I forgot to add that Maia’s triangle was insane, I have yet to see anyone set that up as smooth and easy as him. There has been guys that fall into one, but not any that have been sat on, and then rolled into it like that. Beautiful BJJ by Maia.
