It seems like Davis and Jones are destined to meet at some point down the road. Davis drew comparisons to Jones before “Bones” came into his own based on their athleticism, wrestling ability, and seemingly limitless potential. With three straight wins since his only defeat including a recent decision over former champion Lyoto Machida, Davis could very well secure a title-shot with 1-2 more victories and end up facing Jones in 2014.
UFC light heavyweight Jon Jones emerged from Saturday night’s showdown with Alexander Gustafsson with his divisional title still in tow albeit barely. The UFC 165 headliner was extremely competitive, seeing Jones suffer a good deal of damage from Gustafsson’s educated hands after his takedown attempts were repeatedly stuffed. Though “Bones” made it clear he was mortal in the match-up, he also displayed some solid stand-up of his own in addition to tremendous heart. With six defenses of his belt in the books, it’s time to start looking forward to future fights potentially serving as stepping stones on Jones’ ascension to status as the greatest competitor the sport has ever seen.
