Complete UFC 97 Fight Card Announced
Just one day after reaching an agreement to keep UFC 97 in Montreal, the UFC today announced the complete lineup for the event.
As previously announced, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will defend his title against 185-pound challenger Thales Leites in the evening’s headliner while light heavyweights Chuck Liddell and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua clash in the “Redemption” co-main event.
Rounding out the main card is a light heavyweight bout between TUF 8 cast member Kyzysztof Soszynski and former WEC 205-pound title-holder Brian Stann, a heavyweight contest pitting rising contender Cheick Kongo against Antoni Hardonk, and another former WEC light heayvweight champ, Steve Cantwell, squaring off with Luiz Cane.
Xavier Foupa-Pokam vs. Denis Kang, Jason MacDonald vs. Nate Quarry, Ed Herman vs. David Loiseau, David Bielkheden vs. Mark Bocek, TJ Grant vs. Ryo Chonan, and Matt Wiman vs. Sam Stout are slated for the event’s unaired preliminary card.

wow…seems like another solid freaking card. some real good sounding bouts…welcome back to the Crow.
Can’t wait for this one, I haven’t been to a live UFC since Columbus last year, and I think this card just might top it. Man, won’t Leites be the Buster Douglas of MMA if he can pull it off!

O that wont be the 6 to 1 upset that Serra v The Greatness was by anymeans.. I would like to see The Terror beat on country boy Hughes but I dont know guess the UFC hype machine will have to go into overdrive to get me amped for that fight again, all in due time, hey they both are prickss but it should be a good one
Serra v. Hughes is a fight I’m VERY pumped for. Potentially Hughes’ last fight, win or lose, and if Serra wins he’ll be able to say he beat GSP and Hughes. Pretty cool.
I still would love to see Serra drop to his more natural weight. Because of the reality show he’s been sorta stuck up a weight class.
I’m obviously a big Serra fan, and would love to see him fight BJ again. Any thoughts?
Its a pretty good card… Hopefully Kang can put his problems “behind” him and come out with the victory

No you’re right. The entire undercard is full of Canadians, good for a crowd pleaser. Actually, I don’t think TJ Grant is canadian, so every fight but that one has Canadians on it.
Actually Soszynski is Canadian. He’s from Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Unless Kang signed a 3 fight deal, he will be out with a loss. Herman loses and his UFC days are done. MacDonald wins and knocks Quarry out of the UFC. IMO.
I think the loser of the MacDonald fight is out no matter who it is. There could be a lot of guys without a job after this. Stout, Wiman Hermann to name a few.
Wiman could be safe with a loss, but Stout should be gone if he loses. Definitely the loser between MacDonald and Quarry will be gone. Chonan losses and he’s 1-3 in the UFC. Looks like most the under card is win and stay in, lose and you’re out.
i dont think they would be out these 2 are great fighters. if quarry losses that might be bad for him but mcdonald isn’t that good to face quarry IMO so if he lost that wouldn’t be so bad

Herman’s hair is going to be really red after the crow’s elbows poke a hole in his head.
I see Silva coming out with a easy win and its a toss up for me in the liddell/shogun fight… cuz liddell has been getting caught alot and if shogun’s conditioning is like it was in the coleman fight then he is in trouble.. if i had to bet on it then i would go with the ice man…

I dont know about chuck liddell hes getting old almost 40 and has been getting koed lately and shogun ain’t that good his conditioning is horrible. so i’ll go with chuck by 3rd round tko when shogun is real tired

I think that thales leites will upset silva. I have this feeling that it’s going to be one of those no one sees coming. Leites is underrated in my opinion and is more than capable of taking him to the ground and finishing him. I’m rooting for leites.
As for chuck vs shogun. IMO shogun needs to be in 3 times better shape than he was against coleman. That was horrrible dude. he gassed out in the first. He’s a good fighter but chuck will tko him is he gasses. I don’t think chuck will win though, i’ve been saying forever that he’s pretty much done. I guess we’ll see.
The crow’s return to the UFC will be Heman’s exit out of the UFC
