A rumored bout between Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson and former EliteXC title-holder KJ Noons has been scrapped from Strikeforce’s April 11th event in San Jose after Noons turned down the matchup to remain focused on his boxing career.

“Josh Thomson will fight [on April 11th]. We offered it to K.J. Noons, (but) it looks like that fight will not happen. K.J. is focusing on his boxing career, so he will not be available,” Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker recently told MMA Weekly.

“I think we’ll always extend the invitation [for Noons to join Strikeforce],” Coker continued. “It’s really going to be up to K.J. If he really has had success in boxing, cause I understand he has, and he’s trying to become a boxer, then he’s not going to be able to be an MMA fighter at this point in his career.”

Stay tuned to MMAFrenzy.com as we’ll pass along news of an opponent for Thomson as soon as it becomes availabe.

or because Noons will get whomped, one of the two?????

  • fr702 says:

Bring on Gilber Melendez now, it sucks that Noons keeps on turning down fights, for whatever reason he comes up with… Nick wasn’t the true #1 contender yada yada, he is working on his boxing carrer whatever just retire from MMA already would you, don’t be afraid of getting it handed to you by The Punk

The guy may legitimately be focusing on his boxing career… especially since the whole ProElite stripping him of the belt and then going belly up situation. That being said, it does seem “convenient” that he’s got an excuse not to fight a legit contender. It’s a shame that Alvarez will be fighting for Bellator in April, that could have been a nice fight. I wonder if Hellboy is opposed to fighting in America, or just fighting for the UFC. It could be fun to watch him face Thompson, or even the Melendez rematch you mentioned, FR, would be good, the first one was great. Not sure what other LWs are now in Strikeforce, but I’m sure there are a lot of interesting match-ups.

I wasn’t that skeptical of KJ when he turned down the Diaz now I just think he maybe on to greener pastures. {Scary}.

  • bfree says:

I dont know much about Noons but the more i read about him the more i think he’s a pansy. But whatever thats one less douche out of MMA. Have thompson fight crazy horse, I love that guy

    • fr702 says:

I do believe that Krazy is still in the clink…

      • DaBoss says:

Krazy Horse is looking at charges for domestic disputes, along with his previous for assault and ‘A’ class I am not expecting him to fight for about 18 months . . . . . Unless its some sort of jailhouse brawl. K.J vs The Punk wouldnt be much of a contest anyway, the only guy StrikeForce can give him would be Melendez again, I would kill to see Josh Thomson fight Roger Huerta

      • bfree says:

Oh i didn’t know that! that sucks for him! Roger huerta is going hollywood so that would be out the question, even though it would be pretty awesome

      • DaBoss says:

Any ideas on who will step into K.J’s spot bfree? Im hoping that StrikeForce will be on screens in the UK soon! The more MMA the better. I know about Huerta heading to the glitz also, cant imagine there being much demand in tinseltown for mexican american fighters that want to act, I know that Couture is in a movie with Stallone soon, anyway with Roger going going gone I think Dana is the kind of guy that would close the door on him only for the reasons he left but then again when Randy x2, Baby Jay and Mark Coleman left they went on bad terms yet who signs those guys pay checks now? We will have to see, Thomson for me would take El Matador though

  • T3chn3tnium says:

is this an April fools joke?

  • nightmare says:

no roger huerta is stopping is mma carreer to pursue acting

  • gunslinger says:

yessS!!!!!!!!!!!!! hey everyone i just heard caol uno vs spencer fisher at ufc 99!

    • fr702 says:

Wow seriously Gun? Where did u “hear” such news??? That is an interesting bout if it does go down..

      • Figs says:

Wow, is that for real? It should be interesting, I think Uno’s last fight in the UFC was against Franca at UFC 43. Should be good. Fisher is a pretty mid of the pack LW, so if he can get past him he’s got potential. He probably wants another chance at Penn, he got destroyed the first time, but their draw bout was close as hell. Hence draw.

  • brad208 says:

KJ lost to Crazy Horse. Over rated journeyman. So go to boxing and suck there.

  • timcat says:

KJ Noons is done. He ducks everyone unless it’s a fight he can dominate. Way overated.
