A heavyweight battle between Josh Barnett and Travis Browne has been set for this December at UFC 168. The bout will join an already stacked main card for the UFC’s year-end pay-per-view. UFC officials confirmed the bout after it was first reported by the Las Vegas Review Journal.
The showdown will be a crucial bout in the UFC’s heavyweight title picture. Josh Barnett picked up an impressive victory over Frank Mir at UFC 164 for his tenth victory in his last eleven bouts.
Travis Browne was initially believed to be facing Stipe Miocic but the promotion elected to have him face Barnett instead. Browne picked up a major victory over Alistair Overeem in the UFC’s return to Boston at UFC Fight Night 26. The victory was Browne’s second in a row since suffering his first career loss to Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva last year.
UFC 168 is set for December 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The year-end event will see a pair of anticipated rematches atop the pay-per-view as UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman takes on Anderson Silva and UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey takes on Miesha Tate. More bouts are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
