Ken Shamrock

MMA legends Ken Shamrock and Tank Abbott both earned first-round stoppage victories in their bouts on Friday at Wargods: Valentine’s Eve Massacre, which took place at the Selland Arena in Fresno, California.

Despite more than a 150-pound weight disadvantage against Ross Clifton, Shamrock knocked Clifton to the canvas early in the first-round before securing a fight-ending armbar that forced “Grizzly” to tap. The victory was Shamrock’s first in six tries since early-2005.

Abbott stopped a four-fight losing streak of his own that included a 2008 loss to Kimbo Slice with his first-round knockout of the sub-.500 Mike Bourke in the evening’s co-main event.

The victories set up a likely future matchup between Shamrock and Abbott that is expected to take place in April or May.

The event’s full results were:

  • Ken Shamrock def. Ross Clifton via submission (armbar) — Round 1, 1:00
  • Mike Moreno def. Gary Padilla via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
  • David “Tank” Abbott def. Mike Bourke via KO (punches) — Round 1, 0:29
  • Rick Reeves def. Nathan James via submission (rear naked choke) — Round 3, 2:07
  • Isaac De Jesus def. Ashe Bowman via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
  • Josh Haynes def. Refael Del Real via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 30-27)
  • Zolia Frausto def. Karina Hallinan via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28)
  • Ron Kessler def. Darren Freeman via split decision (27-30, 30-27, 29-28)

cool i don’t think ken has won in a while

The Judges at this fight needed a kick in the head. Don’t know what the 2nd judge in the Haynes track meet was looking at. Del Real should have been deducted points for running the last two rounds.

Shamrock looked better, and didn’t look like the over-the-hill Ken from his past fights.

Tank was his normal self. He should thank God he was fighting someone as out of shape as he was.

Anyone else think Shamrock looked juiced up? He was huge.

  • nightmare says:

ya he looks huge. must be weight training alot more. i don’t think hes the type of guy to juice up

  • bsbiz says:

Wake me when something interesting happens.

Shamrock vs Tank in either May or April huh? . . . . . . . . Something I would of been interested in 10 years ago! I think me amongst others will take little to no interest in a 45 year old ego mainiac and a 300 pound street fighter lock horns a decade since their limited and let me repeat limited glory days. My prediction is both fighters will gas in the 1st round and Tank forces a stoppage. Anyone as excited as I am?

  • joshsmith says:

YES KEN TANK AND HAYNES WON

  • JOHNBOY says:

gota love tank “knockout or get knocked out” abbott, glad ken got a win, every1 nos hes over the hill and will never compete with the top elite fighters again but u gota respect him for getting his old ass in there and putting on a show, tank vs ken is something ide watch!!

    • justin says:

Even Ken admits he’s over the hill and not an elite fighter, but his excuse is basically that he helped build this sport so he’s going to keep fighting, no matter what anyone else thinks, until he’s ready to give it up.

  • jenkinsss says:

    nightmare,
i agree, i dont think Ken is the kinda guy who would “juice up”. Seems like thats a younger fighters kind of thing.

    anyways…
its nice to see Ken get a win finally.
i dont get how people could not want to watch Tank fight Ken…
its basically a guaranteed first round TKO or KO. Unless Ken submits Tank.
and last time i checked…early round KO’s and TKO’s are always good entertainment so… hahaha
I say Ken wins via first round TKO. Abbot gasses way too easy. So does Ken but still….he at least looks in shape…. hahaha
Damn dude, with those two old guys fighting at the same age as Randy Couture, and Couture having so much success even at his age….its guys like Ken and Tank that make Randy look like a god. hahahahahaha.
even though couture is still one of the best fighters regardless.

    • gunslinger says:

why would you want to watch ken vs tank? I mean ya ken was good and tank well he is not appealing fight wise at all…..i dont care how this fight ends…..it probably wont be interesting it will probably be either a long drawn out boring split from two fighters with no cardio at all or a quick ko for tank or sub for shamrock……….Id really rather watch shogun vs coleman five times before id watch this once…neither of these guys could beat anyone in the top 50 of any divsion…I respect ken and respect that he wants to keep fighting but really watching tank abbot fight is like watching jabba the hut trying to run a marathon…. tank had to ko bourke at 0:29 seconds he and everyone else knows he only fills up with enough gas to go thirty seconds after thirty seconds its just pathetic to watch!

      • justin says:

I think both men should hang ‘em up… but I will probably still watch. I just hope that Shammy Sham pulls off the W. How embarrassing would that be for him to lose to Tank, even though it would probably be by shots to the back of the head like Tank’s win last night.

      • DaBoss says:

My views exactly gun, 10 years ago this would be big news. Today its a novelty match up. Ken should have called time the secone time he got owned and humiliated by Tito, he hasnt been ‘elite’ since 2000 and as for Tank in the early years yeah he was and still is a beast who if he hits you in the mouth your going to eat s-hit but when the sport started evolving into martial arts of the mixed variety you could see anyone with discipline would let him punch himself out for 30 seconds take him down and get the W, a la Frank Mir (the next UFC undisputed HW champion)

  • M3 says:

it’s good to see Shamrock win for a change he had a bad couple of years!

  • C-RO says:

    tank will knock shamrock out
