Welterweight Karo Parisyan has tested positive for the banned painkillers Hydrocodone, Hydromorphone, and Oxymorphone following his victory of Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 94 on January 31st in Las Vegas.

Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer confirmed the positive result to MMAFrenzy.com this afternoon.

The remaining eleven fighters who were tested from the card, including UFC 94 headliners Georges St-Pierre and BJ Penn, passed their tests for performance enhancing drugs and drugs of abuse.

it seems this guy will never “get it” imo

  • windmiller says:

does anyone know how long he is suspended for?

  • Jaymz says:

3 different kinds. You’d almost think he was trying to get caught. Also,am I the only one that thinks he lost that fight anyways?

  • Figs says:

    Jaymz,

No I agree with you, it was fairly close though so I can see a judge getting mislead from watching from one corner. I’m not really a Karo fan so not seeing him around again for a while is nothing unfortunate in my books. He comes across as too arogant. I personally think he lost to nick diaz back at ufc 49 too.

  • mikew says:

He had to know he would get busted, so stupid. Why would he need these potent painkillers.
I know these well, i had a spine sugery Feb.21, 2008, had my spine broken and straightened and have rods and screws on my full spine.
It took a while to kick those pills, people who lack self discipline can get hooked easy.
I’m guessing Karo is messed up, maybe he needs to get away from the pressure of the Octagon and get his life together first.
So much raw talent but lacking the self discipline…a real shame.

  • 2live says:

I think he looked terrible in that fight. and lucky to win

  • Jazzkok says:

Dude, first he has a panic attack and pulls out of the yoshida fight the night before, then he wins a fight he really lost with a sucky performance, and now this? He was Atleast in the top 6 ww before thiago and now things are just getting bad for him. Too bad he’s a solid fighter, or atleast was.

  • hamsterwheel1307 says:

    u suck karo

  • drgreenthumb30 says:

karo is trash im sorry but he’s not even in the top 10 in my book…i question the decision in that last fight also…drop him affliction can have him..lol

  • T3chn3tnium says:

this dude is garbage. i don’t think affliction would even get this guy.

  • 2live says:

Well, its offical…nobody likes you Karo, take a hike.

  • Evan says:

i think when james irvin got caught for using pain killers over the summer after his fight with anderson, they gave him 6 months. I hope the UFC cuts him though, im sick of his bull****

  • Jazzkok says:

yeah dude, karo fell off the wagon. I personally think he’s a good fighter and HAD potential, but it’s clear that he isn’t going anywhere in the ww division.

  • Jay says:

karo is a great fighter… And had beaten so many tough oppoents since he started fighting at the age of 14 with grown ass man!! I go by facts not opinions

  • 2live says:

Who has he beat lately worth mentioning?

  • Jay says:

You would think a MMA fighter would be able to get a legit script no sweat. If the guy had done that then I can’t see where they’d have a problem. I’d think all of these guys are taking them, at least after the fight. Should’ve just gone to the doc and said he was hurt during training!

  • paralyze7 says:

I agree he’s been off lately but I don’t think you can deny his potential. Hopefully after this he’ll come back mentally strong and we can see him evolve as a more focused fighter.

  • fr702 says:

Im not a Karo fan but damn man 3 different things and didnt he say in a interview with someone that he hasnt taken medication for his problems? Didnt he promise to god bro, that he never had taken anything? And imo he didnt win that fight, it was perhaps given to him due to his “name” he looked hella sloppy and weak and got outclassed in judoka which is his game right? Bro do u know who u are, you’re a champion bro why do u do this to yourself bro, damn bro just damn… get your shhh together bro or you will never ever be a top fighter again bro

    • justin says:

      FR,
I remember him saying that in the interview, but he was talking about the meds for his head, not pain meds. I guess he wasn’t taking then anti-anxiety stuff because he was self medicating with the pain pills. Alos, Judo is the art, Judoka is the people that do it.

      • fr702 says:

get off my asss man damn…. I misrepresented my knowledge damnit leave me be, ha

      • dbiz says:

Someone too a few too many dollars to play with Costa Rican walking merchandise, apparently…. Come back to us, FR. Naked broads on the beach < MMA talk with me and Justin, right? Right???

        *crickets chirp*

        Sigh…

      • justin says:

LOL. No worries man, I know you’re still adjusting…

      • fr702 says:

haha DbiZ untrue but hella funny (when u arrive in the internatcional airporto there is a sign telling you to only have sex with women over the age of 18 “its the law and they’re serious” hella funny) and i wasnt at the beach I was in~land and I believe that is even worse, the “walking merchandise” was quite rampid around there and I watched gents take their “dates” it was interesting to say the least, but no i didnt not do such things..

Justin no worries I will work on it for ya, haha

      • justin says:

“but no I didn’t not do such things”…. ?? That’s funny about the sign, though.

  • fr702 says:

goodness, my grammar sucks i quit

  • fr702 says:

haha no I did NOT do those sort of things…. Again thx for throwing me under the bus, but hey Im making it pretty easy aren’t I?

  • jenkinsss says:

    hahahaha how pathetic
i actually thought this was pretty funny.
pain killers? i mean cmon man. wow

  • Niko says:

Fr702, Dude, what the F is that between your legs, a huge dildo???

  • mikew says:

I believe Karo has some serious mental problems, during his post fight interview he seemed to be comparing himself to some of the top notch WW fighters. He was saying he hung in close but failed only because he did not train, he claims to still be top 8. He is delusional, he fails to see reality as it is.
I think he is his own worst enemy, he has lost his edge completely and has frittered away a boatload of raw talent. His sense of obvious relief during the aftershow should have been one of, crap i’m gonna get busted for sure.

    • fr702 says:

It is crazy how he does see himself, He most likely believes he hasnt ever lost a match in his entire life… He isn’t even close to being in the top ten imo, and he wants Kos for some reason, which even tho i dont like Kos either I think that would definately be a step down for Kos, Karo wants the NSAC to do absolutely nothing to him, which I dont think will happen but ofcourse we shall wait and see

  • Niko says:

thanx for verifying that, i was a little worried there for a sec.

  • joejoe says:

    Karo lost against stungun imo
    so now what?`
is that win going to be stripped from him? or called a no contest?

  • timcat says:

    Ok I’m back,

I took a little time off from commenting on here and now is the time to let it rip.

Karo is a joke, he didn’t deserve to win that fight to begin with.
With this failed test I can see the UFC finally letting him go.

  • paralyze7 says:

What’s the policy for drug testing? I know the Athletic Commish does it after the fight but doesn’t the UFC do it’s own test before the fight?

You’d think they might test at the weigh-ins to avoid unfair fights but then again… they probably wouldn’t want to surprise people with cancellations either, which might explain testing aftewards. Any insight?

    • justin says:

They test them sporadically at other points in the year. In the lead up to Lesnar v. Couture they tested them a month out. I think they’re working towards more frequent testing. I do think part of it could be to do with not having surprise cancellations, in terms of not having them to get tested immediately before the fight.

  • Jaymz says:

And Karo probably didn’t mention anything before the fight for fear of losing the paycheck.

    • justin says:

He didn’t mention anything before the fight, but he did went to wiz. They have paperwork they’re supposed to fill out before the fight and disclose any pain meds they took on the paperwork, he failed to disclose the medication on that paperwork. Then when he went to pee he was like “Oh, I took pain meds, they’ll probably show up.” He’s claiming the NSAC official said he would be fine, but Kizer says no one would have said any such thing. He also claims that he forgot to disclose it because of how anxious he was going into the fight, and he remembered after the fight once he was calm.

  • Leo says:

IT is obvious Karo either a). wanted to get busted or b). is physically dependent on opiates/opioids and it was either take the pills or be in narcotic withdrawal during the fight. Narcotic painkillers such as the three in question are detectable in urine for 72 hours, and 72 hours without the pills for someone who is physically dependent, is a nightmare. Karo wouldn’t have stood a chance in that case and he knew it. He took a chance and got caught.

The two out of the three narcotics in question are heavy duty and usually given only to the terminally ill or for major traumatic injuries. And for someone to be taking all of those at the same time, Karo isn’t just taking those drugs to deal with injuries. Trust me on that.

This is all speculation on my part and is in no way considered to be the truth.

  • FR702 says:

    *just a thought*

Is UFC 94 just filled with post fight drama? Now I have been gone for awhile and didnt have much time to express how I felt about the bouts, now looking back on it I just wanted to give my 1,257 colones on it..

The card was just simply a decision filled card from top to bottom. The main event was well one sided to say the least, and ya I was pulling for Penn but after the first he just didnt look the same. The Karo fight was well uninspired by both fighters, with some good switches and throws other than that it was two really good judoka practitioners sparring in a Judo match.. Bonnar looked horrible and perhaps thats what made Jones look great (ofcourse com’in out with crazy ass attacks helps too).. This simply did not live up to the hype that it brought forth, perhaps because we all spent 4 months getting ampd for it and debating all the aspects of Penn v GSP, hell there were better arguments on this site than there were fights on that night..

Lyoto Machida is a new fighter? Well, no he is the same fighter that I believe is tired of people on the net talking shhh about him, and he had one purpose to destroy Thiago, and he did.. Give the man his shot, that will judge how good he is, won’t it? He hasnt fought the cream of the crop in the UFC yet, but damnit now is the time let him and Evans fight for it, the winner stays undefeated and the loser well is was probably just hype anyways (sarcasm).. I also found it ironic that the one fight that most could agree would go to a decision was the Silva v Machida fight and wow o wow were most wrong, it was an assss whooping handed down by a determained Machida.

Greased up guy? Well we have all seen the pics/gifs/video of the rub down, and would that help against the rubber guard and transitioning into subs, um YA.. Mind you that GSP was whooping Penn no doubt about it, but to (un)knowingly take away the only oppritunity for someone to counter you, but an illegal substance (area) is just simply wrong, and good for Penn or whomever to point it out.. Will the fight be considered a NC, hell I dont know I really dont care either way but now a closer eye will be put on GSP for this and that is unfortunate because he didnt apply it himself. GSP v Penn III, if you have too ok but they both need to face their number 1 contender first imo..

Karo, well your “win” most likely will become a NC and you might get suspended because you simply werent smart enough to disclose your meds before the fight, thats just dumb and if the NSAC knew of the drugs before they probably wouldnt have let him fight anyways, bro I know who you are, you’re an irresponsible individual going through life and having a difficult time adjusting to your lack of greatness, get your shhh together..

IMO UFC 94 was a good card with alot of let downs, I would ofcourse puchase it again, but the card didnt live up to the hype, then again the cards with little or no hype always seem the best due to the fact you werent expecting a head kick ko from GG now were you?

o and for the people that couldnt imagine that Fitch was on the undercard against Gono, 1 have you seen that fight, 2 it went to a decsion as well soo it too was unexciting..

Just a few thoughts on a slow day, cheers

    • justin says:

      Good read, thanks for sharing.

      • fr702 says:

Thx Justin, I thought you were going to tell me wrong forum (thread), bad grammar ect hahaha

      • dbiz says:

ECT??? YOU MEAN ETC YOUR GRAMMAR MAKES ME SO MAD!!!!!

Only part I took issue with was “it went to a decsion as well soo it too was unexciting.” That implies that all decisions are unexciting, which is definitely not the case. IF that isn’t how you meant it, then I’m going to have to send the assassins out because you were unclear.

Unless you brought a Costa Rican hooker back in your luggage for me.

      • justin says:

LOL, nah. I’m not worried about the thread since you’ve been gone for so long. Grammar, well I try to let that slide as much as possible ;)

      • FR702 says:

DbiZ, sorry that I implied that all fights that go to decsions are unexciting.. Clearly not the case I could waste time and come up with countless fights that were wars and extremely exciting that just happened to go the distance, and she didnt want to go to Ohio soo I dropped her off in Mexico to make me some peso’s

Justin thx for being understanding, much appreciated…..

  • Bionic says:

Since when are painkillers performance enhancing drugs? (especially 3 different kinds at the same time)
