Finally … we get to see Nick Diaz fight again. Why has he been “banned” from UFC?

    • justin says:

He lost to Diego Sanchez, then Joe Riggs, then Joe Riggs in the hospital after the fight, then Sean Serk. The UFC cut him, then when they gave him a chance to come back Diaz decided to sign with the Gracie Fighting Championships and leave the UFC. He never fought for them, fought for Pride once, failed the wiz quiz, got suspended for six months (which was the reason he couldn’t corner Nate at the TUF finale, NSAC wouldn’t allow him at the event). Then he went to ProElite, and now he just got sold.

      • dbiz says:

That was beautiful and brought a tear to my eye.

      • CC says:

        Cheers Justin …
I still think he’s a fun fighter to watch

      • Jaymz says:

Just watched the Diaz vs Riggs fight again and Riggs lost that fight regardless of the decision. And from everything I’ve read on the hospital incidence, both from Riggs and from Diaz,it was Riggs who got the worst of that as well.

  • mikew says:

I dont think the UFC want Nick anymore, i dont think he’s anywhere near what he used to be. He is young though and maybe they are waiting to see if gets better.
Personally i find him pretty boring to watch, i prefer watching Nate fight,i used to like him but now i wont pay money to watch him. I suspect Nick will be set up with a Tomato can for this upcoming fight.

  • mikew says:

Some organizations are keen to place big name fighters in easier fights.
Nick Diaz like him or not is a very sellable guy, having him in the spotlight will sell a lot of tickets and PPV’s.
Maybe i’m just jaded or sceptical because of the Elitexc garbage and the obvious favortism and shameless promoting of certain fighters. Hey, i hope i’m wrong and Diaz faces a real good opponent and is tested.

  • fr702 says:

This should be a good fight, hell you have Diaz’s BJJ v Melendez gnp wrasslin base, Gilbert imo is a better striker than Nick, hell Nick wont even be able to make weight most likely… Im inclined to take Gilbert (t)ko round 2

With StrikeForce aquiring ProElite and certain fighters finally we get to see certain people fight one another and yes I too would like to see the likes of Sheilds and Lawlor in the UFC but this perhaps is the second best option for them all… Hey maybe it all started when Scott Smith ko’d Martin in StrikeForce’s last event? i dont know but hey its a good purchase imo, and StrikeForce is an established org and can run this properly.. as far as Kevin Ferguson goes i personally dont care what happens to him but if he were to work is way up the ranks a become a decent MMA fighter, StrikeForce’s HW champion is Alistar Overeem soo maybe we all would see Kevin die in the cage, awwww thats just crazy talk he wont ever become a decent MMA fighter..
I cant wait to see how this works out and I most likely will be at the show in April (schedule permitting), StrikeForce puts on a fun show and if they play their cards right the will easily sellout the HP Pavilion, but the San Jose fans tend to show up “fasionably late” so that kinda sucks, but whatever…. Ive always pulled for the StrikeForce org and will continue too, but UFC is number 1 and they know that, they’re just attempting to get their cut of the pie and put on some great shows, i cant wait

  • fr702 says:

hahaha ya, sorry again guys… Justin already knows but im sitting here on extreme exhaustion.. Just got back to the states and thought i would attempt to rejoin the communication here on the FrenZy, now im getting my 6th wind and watching Torres v Tapia because well hell its MMA and im quite the addict, and attempting to regain my MMA force, hahaha

I ve been reading through last weeks comments and some are rather interesting, never the less im back for discussions on our sport, nice to see the site getting stronger as well cheers my friends..

  • Jaymz says:

    Diaz would destroy Alvarez

    • fr702 says:

How would Diaz destroy Alvarez? Im just asking not completely disregarding your opionion, just wondering how you see it going down…

IMO Alvarez would take Diaz in the standup game and I dont see Nick pulling off a Aoki-esque leg lock, his best chance is a triangle choke but i see Alvarez’s power not quite allowing that to happen, soo maybe gnp by Alvarez or a potential decision by Diaz

      • Jaymz says:

ok,destroy might be pushing it.but i do think Diaz would beat him.Alvarez is an exciting fighter with high energy but he has not faced the kind of competition Diaz has faced.Diaz’ experience and skill would be too much for him.

      • fr702 says:

Diaz has faced some comp in his days, his notable wins include, Lytle, Lawler, Fickett and Neer.. His notable loses include, Noons, Sherk, Riggs, Sanchez and Karo, NC is Gomi
compared to Alvarez who’s notable wins include, Kawajiri, Hellboy and Amade. His notable loses are Thompson and Aoki

So I belive that this fight is more equal than most would imagine, hence it would come down to Alvarez’s pure power v Diaz’s BJJ and him being able to use his reach

      • justin says:

        FR,
You beat me to it, I had this nice post with all that stuff in it, and decided to see if you had commented again before I posted it…

Anyways, I agree that it would be closer than some think. I wouldn’t expect Diaz’s Jits to get the best of Alvarez quite the way that Aoki’s did. I think Aoki is on a completely different level compared to Diaz. Diaz’s best bet is decision, or shocker KO like he pulled against Lawler. Alvarez would need to either keep it standing and get a KO, or smother him like Guida did the younger Diaz. I do think Alvarez would do more offensively with his striking than Guida did while smothering, however.

ProElite had this fight scheduled, before they folded, hopefully Strikeforce can make it happen. Of course the problem with that is Alvarez is slated to fight in the Bellator Lightweight tourney, beginning April 3rd. So the fight likely won’t take place April 11, but maybe down the road.

      • fr702 says:

thx Justin much appreciated, it will take me a moment to get back to the norm but I will give it a try forsure, I did notice that Alvarez was slated to fight on the 3rd and to make it out untouched is unlikely (yet not un heard of) soo if that were to happen and he could get cleard by the CSAC perhaps it could happpen…. Im interested in what Bellator is set out to do, but i will tell you that i didnt find one “local” that knew what the UFC was or even what MMA was in San Jose, Costa Rica… which was very interesting, but they are really into Boxing soo i got to see some local fighters on the “state” channel and yep boxing still bores me, but those little Rican guys were more entertaining than most… cheers

  • fr702 says:

Thx again guys, I going to go ahead assume that some people arent being to rational? well then so be it, im not going to go thru all the posts of the last week or soo to see exactly which commentors you are talking about (nor is there a need to say soo rightnow) they have a knack of finding me and now that im state side, even with my travels comming forth I have the CrackBerry and the laptop to check on the FrenZy quite often…

anything inparticular you gents would like to hijack this thread on?

  • DR.DOOM says:

Should be a good show april 11th . have been wanting to see some more Strikeforce shows …. still cant wait for the Dream 7 show too . Wpould like to see a few K-1 matches on that card . makes for a cool mix . kick boxing and MMA go together while regular boxing and mma dont .I still love to watch a good boxing card .. just buy itself tho .

    • fr702 says:

DREAM 7 will be a great show, I have been impressed by the DREAM org is doing a good job on grabbing their piece of the pie, with their unique shows and tourney’s… K~1 is definately coming into their own again which is good to see as well, please o god the boxing/MMA cards (even the local ones) need to stop forsure… April 11th is going to be really good man I cant wait I really hope that my schedule will allow me to go in person

  • fr702 says:

    *Rumor*

Diaz to step up in weight to face Frank Shamrock…

  • gunslinger says:

Strikeforce could be a legit challenger to the ufc one day,i never see them winning a war with the ufc but they could be really big one day…there alot smarter than elite xc and affliction they use there money wisely, this event should be pretty decent hopefully they can sign gina vs guyborg for this event or at least some time soon……………..also ,kris, justin, eric or somebody is a ufc 95 discussion thread going to added soon

    • justin says:

At this time there’s not a lot of news coming out about UFC 95. I expect we’ll start seeing Video blogs early next week coming from Dana, which will give you a place to discuss the event. Right now most of the news seems to be about Strikeforce, WarGods, and XFC.

  • Jazzkok says:

I can’t stand frank shamrock and i hope diaz beats him. I think he’s a good fighter, good enough to be atleast given a chance @ the ww div in the ufc.

  • mikew says:

My thought is Shamrock/Diaz will be at 185, Nick had problems making 170 so it stands to reason. A little better match than i anticipated, although Frank is 36 i think he still has the much better striking game and power, while Nick is the JJ guy.
Franks last fight was against Cung Le about a year ago i think, kind of a must win for both guys.
I give the edge to Frank for his dynamic striking which looked average against one of the best in the world…Cung Le, when do we get to see that guy in action again?
Cung Le vs A. Silva in the UFC, a dream fight for me.

    • justin says:

Cung Le only recently got back to training, there were talks of seeing him April-June time frame. I think we would have heard about it by now if he were going to be on the April 11 card, but hopefully we’ll see him not long after that.

  • mikew says:

Two great trash talkers, should hype the fight greatly.

  • mikew says:

    Thanks for info Justin. Cheers.

  • nev-o says:

hell yes! i hope this is free i want to see diaz. its been awhile. he better roll a big fattie before haha.

  • Figs says:

Apparently this will be Frank Shamrock vs. Nick Diaz but at a catchweight of 179 lbs. I wonder if the UFC will give away UFC 94 on spike to compete. I hope so as I love to tape the event while watching the live one.

  • MMAster T says:

Anybody that thinks Nick Diaz is boring to watch is completely out of their mind!! You are either just a Diaz hater or do not understand/appreciate the sport of mma, PERIOD! Love him or hate him but you damn sure cant deny him. The boy is bad….and if you can sit there and tell me that you’ve actually sat down and watched the entire Takanori Gomi/Nick Diaz fight and u thought it was boring….then ummmm..YOU ARE FULL OF S**T!! And as far as the Joe Riggs fight goes, I definately think Nick should’ve gotten the victory. Was it close? yes. Did Riggs win? No. And they may have given Riggs the win on paper in the octagon but Diaz got the win in the hospital thats for damn sure. Ive seen the video. So its 1-1. Guess we need a rubber match! LoL. Cant wait for Diaz/Shamrock. Never thought of that match-up before. Most intriguing fight i’ve seen in awhile….
