MMAFrenzy’s live coverage of UFC 164 kicks off with our recaps of tonight’s UFC 164 Facebook preliminaries. In the featured bout, Soa Palelei defeated Nikita Krylov in the third round with an overall sad display of MMA. In other opening action, Ryan Couture and Magnus Cedenblad picked up victories in tonight’s opening salvo of fights.
Palelei Finishes Krylov
Soa Palelei may have gotten his hand raised tonight in Milwaukee, but the victory may not have netted him any support in the UFC. The injured Palelei, who apparently injured his ribs a week ago, managed to get a third round knockout of Nikita Krylov tonight but neither fighter impressed that much tonight. The victory is Palelei’s first in the Octagon after coming up short years ago at UFC 79.
Iaquinta Dominates Couture
In the second bout of the night, Ryan Couture was simply out-matched tonight against TUF: Live’s Al Iaquinta. While Couture showed an impressive amount of heart, his all-round game was just a step behind Iaquinta throughout their three round fight. The victory is Iaquinta’s first in the UFC after dropping the TUF: Live Finale to Michael Chiesa last year.
Cedenblad Chokes Out Hamman
Magnus Cedenblad wasted no time getting started in tonight’s opener opposite Jared Hamman. After a frenetic start by Hamman, the American fighter took a bad shot and ended up in a deep guillotine that forced him to tap less than a minute into the fight. The victory is the Swede’s first in the UFC after losing to Francis Carmont in his debut fight last year in Sweden.
