TUF 17 champion Kelvin Gastelum made his welterweight debut against the dangerous Brian Melancon tonight at UFC Fight Night 27. The Arizona native looked very comfortable at his new home by blasting Melancon before securing the submission victory to stay undefeated.
Gastelum Blasts Melancon
TUF 17 champion Kelvin Gastelum showed no fear tonight of the dangerous striker Brian Melancon. Gastelum stalked throughout the fight and showed excellent movement early one. The fight would hinge on a sneaky uppercut by Gastelum that sent Melancon reeling to the canvas. Gastelum would quickly pounce and secured a fight-ending rear-naked choke to improve to 7-0.
Rd. 1- Wild exchanges early on before Kelvin lands a driving takedown. Melancon works back up but eats some elbows and a knee. Melancon works out and lands a body shot. Gastelum lands a brief takedown and lands a shot as Melancon escapes. Melancon is putting power in every shot but he eats a nasty uppercut and gets dropped hard. Gastelum quickly passes to his opponents back and sinks in a fight-ending RNC. Impressive victory by Gastelum.
