While the UFC is in Indianapolis for the its latest Fight Night card tomorrow night, the promotion also held tryouts today in the city for the upcoming, 19th Season of “The Ultimate Fighter.” The show will feature middleweight and light-heavyweight competitors and is expected to get under way in the spring of 2014. The season’s coaches haven’t been announced.
As usually is the case, there were reportedly several established fighters and rising prospects at the TUF 19 tryouts. According to a report from MMA Junkie.com, some of the more notable included former Bellator welterweight champ Lyman Good, Cage Warriors welterweight champ Cathal Pendred, former Cage Warriors middleweight champ Chris Fields, and welterweight prospect Dhiego Lima, who is the younger brother of Bellator star Douglas.
Good (15-3) went on to become Bellator’s first welterweight champ after signing with the promotion in 2009, but was eventually defeated by reigning champion Ben Askren. Since the loss, the noted striker and 28 year-old fighter has gone 5-2.
The 25 year-old Pendred (13-2-1) is a teammate of rising featherweight and UFC prospect Conor McGregor, and is undefeated in eight straight bouts. Pendred is coming off a victory over UFC vet Che Mills.
The 30 year-old Fields (10-5-1) also trains with Pendred and McGregor in Ireland, and is 2-2-1 in his last five fights.
Lima (8-1) is coming off back-to-back victories, after he lost by unanimous decision to Strikeforce vet Nathan Coy at a Maximum Fighting Championship card last January. The 23 year-old fighter is scheduled to fight Ricky Rainey at XFC 25 on September 6th.
