Kampmann Expects “War” Versus Condit

Martin Kampmann

It may be hard to believe, but over four years have gone by now since Martin Kampmann and Carlos Condit thrilled MMA fans in their first bout, which went down at Fight Night 18 in April, 2009. Kampmann emerged with the split decision win, and not only spoiled Condit’s Octagon debut, but the defeated ended the former WEC welterweight champ’s eight fight win streak.

Since then, Condit has had more success in the UFC, as “The Natural Born Killer” has put together a 5-2 run, which includes winning the interim belt. Kampmann, on the other hand, has also scored some big wins but has gone 5-4 since their first battle. Of course, none of this changes the fact that both Kampmann and Condit  are ranked in the UFC’s top ten (Condit is #3 and Kampmann is #6), and have continued to develop as fighters over the last few years. So in other words, the chances that their August 28th rematch is going to be extremely entertaining, are pretty high. As Kampmann recently told

“I expect a war. I’m preparing for five rounds of tough action. Carlos Condit always brings it and he tries to go in there and finish his opponents and that’s what I do. So, it’s going to be a hell of a fight, it’s going to be action packed.”

“He’s a very complete fighter, you know, he’s very dangerous standing up, he’ll throw unorthodox stuff that can catch people off guard. He’s got a really dangerous guard, dangerous jiu-jitsu, submissions, people are kind of dogging on his wrestling but he just fought two of the best wrestlers in the division, so, I definitely don’t think his wrestling is as bad as people say.”

Although the fight is maybe getting overlooked a little bit, due to all the all-star bouts that have taken place lately or are on the horizon, it should be a great main event.

UFC Fight Night 27 will be hosted by the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1. The card will also feature Donald Cerrone taking on fellow lightweight contender Rafael dos Anjos.
