A welterweight pairing between Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald is headed to UFC 167 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The bout is expected to serve as the night’s co-headliner. The long-rumored bout was confirmed on Tuesday’s episode of UFC Tonight.
Both fighters head into the bout after coming out victorious at Seattle’s UFC on FOX 8 fight card. Lawler impressed UFC president Dana White for the second fight in a row by defeating Bobby Voelker in Seattle via a ferocious head kick. While “Ruthless” impressed, MacDonald vexed the UFC brass with an effort that was just enough to get past opponent Jake Ellenberger.
UFC 167 will be headlined by a UFC welterweight title fight between champion Georges St-Pierre and Johnny Hendricks. The billing will mark the 20th anniversary of UFC 1, which took place November 12 at the since demolished McNichols Sports Arena in Denver, Colorado. More bouts are expected to be announced for the UFC’s 2o-year anniversary card.
