Matt Brown raised a few eyebrows at UFC Fight Night 26 by saying that Mike Pyle “is better” than welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre, and during another post-fight interview he’s probably done so again.
How so? Brown appeared on a recent edition of MMA Junkie.com Radio, and was predictably asked about GSP, sine he called out the renowned fighter after he took Pyle. Although most fans and pundits believe St. Pierre is among the very best wrestlers in MMA, Brown had this to say about his own grappling skills.
“I know where my wrestling stands,” Brown said. “It’s simply a matter of executing those abilities in the ring with ‘GSP.’ I can outwrestle him. I’m calling it right now.
“It sounds f—ing ridiculous, and everybody is going to laugh at me, and I know the forums, everybody’s going to talk about how I’m delusional and this and that. … I know where I’m at.”
“I don’t think [St-Pierre has] ever fought anybody that can put the kind of pressure that I put on him, and I think I can stop his takedowns,” Brown said. “His best chance is to get a takedown. People haven’t seen my wrestling. I’m training with the best wrestlers in the world right now, and I’m getting pretty damn good at it.”
Whether Brown’s in fact a better wrestler than St. Pierre, there’s no doubt a lot of folks would like to see how he would do against the reigning champ. Speaking of GSP and good wrestlers, he’ll face a ridiculously decorated one in Johny Hendricks on November 16th.
