MMAFrenzy’s live UFC Fight Night 26 coverage kicks off with our recap of tonight’s Facebook fights. A bout between Manny Gamburyan and Cole Miller topped off tonight’s opening trio of fights and it was Gamburyan that came away with the victory tonight in Boston. In other action, Ovince St. Preux and James Vick proved victorious in tonight’s UFC Fight Night 26 opening trio of prelims.
Gamburyan Edges Miller
In a battle of The Ultimate Fighter 5 teammates, Manny Gamburyan would defeat Cole Miller in a fun fight. Gamburyan would have to overcome a series of hard, but deemed legal in the cage, elbows at the end of Round 1 that left him in a haze. Gamburyan would rally however, and managed to seize control of the fight by negating Miller’s length and height advantages by grinding down Miller. Manvel has now won two straight for the first time since 2009-10, while Miller drops to 1-3 at featherweight.
St. Preux Blasts Donovan
Former University of Tennessee Volunteer Ovince St. Preux stayed perfect in the Octagon tonight against Cody Donovan. While Donovan tried to get the fight to the canvas early in the fight, he neglected to base out on the takedown attempt and was quickly reversed. From there, St. Preux quickly postured up and rained down heavy ground-and-pound that separated his opponent from his senses. St. Preux has now won three fights since his 2011 loss to Gegard Mousasi, while Donovan drops to 1-1 in the Octagon.
Vick Submits Nijem
TUF: Live’s James Vick had to wait awhile to make his official UFC debut but he made the most of it tonight in Boston. Despite being taken down early by opponent Ramsey Nijem, the “Texecutioner” used his length to scramble to a Cody McKenzie-style guillotine choke that forced Nijem to tap. Vick improves to 5-0 in his MMA career, while Nijem drops his second fight in a row in the Octagon.
