If UFC president Dana White has his way Lyoto Machida could be dropping to middleweight to face Vitor Belfort this fall at UFC 167. The bout would land as the co-main event for the UFC 167 fight card. The bout was talked about on last night’s edition of UFC Tonight.
UFC Tonight reporter Ariel Helwani spoke of the bout last night:
“I spoke to Dana White and he says he loves this fight at 185. He’d like Machida to go down to that weight. It’d be the co-main event of the 20th anniversary card, UFC 167: GSP vs. Hendricks. I spoke to Machida’s manager and he says he loves the fight at either 185 or 205.”
UFC 167 will be headlined by a UFC welterweight title fight between champion Georges St-Pierre and Johnny Hendricks. The billing will mark the 20th anniversary of UFC 1, which took place November 12 at the since demolished McNichols Sports Arena in Denver, Colorado. The card saw Royce Gracie submit his way through an eight-man field.
