Spong Out-Strikes DeAnda

World renown kick boxer Tyrone Spong stepped into the cage for the second time tonight against Angel DeAnda. While Spong’s striking skills were apparent over all three rounds, his takedown defense kept him upright to deliver that damage over the three round fight. DeAnda showed considerable heart tonight by advancing and throwing big shots that kept Spong from landing the kill shot to put him away but it was not enough as Spong would still get the nod.

Moraes Batters Hempleman

Marlon Moraes secured an impressive victory over Brandon Hempleman in tonight’s WSOF 4 co-main event. Moraes’s Muay Thai was the difference in the fight as he knocked Hempleman to the canvas with both punches and legkicks. Hempleman would show an impressive amount of heart however, refusing to give in and doing his best to stay in the fight. It was all in vain however, as Moraes prevented him from ever mounting anything substantial.

Newell Taps Caldwell

Congenital amputee Nick Newell improved to 10-0 tonight with a first round submission victory over Keon Caldwell. Newell looked to stand and trade early but Caldwell’s speed and power led him to take the fight to the canvas. The fight ended after Newell was able to secure a ninja choke in scramble. While Caldwell tried to fight out, he was quickly forced to tap.

Huckaba beats his Boss

Dave Huckaba got to live the dream of many workers when he faced his boss, WSOF president Ray Sefo, tonight in Ontario. While the fight was not the most technical or a matchup of fighters at the top of their games, it was fun none-the-less. Sefo battered the legs of Huckaba for the better part of two rounds but the fight quickly turned when he was a little slow to reset after a head kick. Huckaba quickly pounced and put away Sefo with a quick barrage along the cage.

Cavalcante TKOs Griffin

Tonight’s WSOF 4 fight card kicked off in the lightweight division as Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante took on Tyson Griffin. The two had no interest in playing it safe tonight, as both fighters exchanged power strikes over the first two rounds. In the third round, JZ would seize control with a driving takedown. The takedown proved to be the beginning of the end as he quickly took Griffin’s back and finished the fight with strikes. While it appeared a quick stoppage, Griffin was clearly trapped and not going anywhere.
