Jason MacDonald vs. Nate Quarry Added To UFC 97
Middleweights Jason MacDonald and Nate Quarry will look to rebound from recent losses and climb the 185-pound ladder when they meet at UFC 97 on April 18th in Montreal, Canada.
MMAFrenzy.com today confirmed the matchup, which was first reported by MMA Weekly.
Though he’s gone just 5-4 since debuting with the UFC in 2006, MacDonald (21-11) has earned three “Submission of the Night” awards for wins over Ed Herman, Chris Leben, and Jason Lambert as well as a “Knockout of the Night” honor for his second-round TKO of Joe Doerksen. “The Athlete” was last in action at The Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale in December, losing via first round submission due to strikes.
Quarry kicked off his UFC career with three-straight victories over Lodune Sincaid, Shonie Carterm, and Pete Sell that earned him a title shot against Rich Franklin. Franklin defeated Quarry via first-round knockout in late-2005 and “The Rock” did not compete again inside the octagon for two years due to various injuries sustained prior to the championship bout and underwent surgery for a chronic back condition that allowed him to return to competition in 2007. Quarry returned with back-to-back wins over Pete Sell and Kalib Starnes, but suffered a first-round submission loss to Demia Maia at UFC 91 in November.

I’m going with MacDonald on this one. I for some reason can’t stand Quarry or Queery I like to call him.
This will be a good fight. Nate and Jason always put on a good show.
Maia, made Quarry look like he’s never heard of jiu-jitsu if Jason can do the same, witch would be smart, this could be very quick. MacDonald by submission 2nd round.
I like both these guys, but I gotta root for the Canadian boy. One more decent quality match like this and a trip to Montreal may be in my future (just change that damn main event).
You know MacDonald’s going to look to finish and Nate looked uterly lost and confused after losing to Maia, so I see this hitting the ground early. MacDonald by arm bar with 1 minute left in the first.
If McDonald can get it to the ground, I think he will sub Quarry pretty easily. McDonald is not quite on the same level as Maia, but he was able to hang with Maia for a while in their match up. However, if Quarry can come out and blast McDonald from the start, like Gouveia did, it may end up the same way that fight did. Either way, I think this is a good match up, and a good grappler v. striker fight.
*Important Note*
Helio Gracie has passed away at 95 I believe R.I.P
i think MacDonald will try to stand; I don’t see him going straight for the takedown.
i like the rock and will be rooting for him in this match, mcdonalds bjj is not on the same scale as maia so i cant see him takeing him down easy and just taping him, should be a good fight but i cant see nate loseing this fight,
