Ronday Rousey may be at the pinnacle of the sport, but the UFC Bantamweight Champion is already mapping out her post-fighting life, and it could begin much sooner than anyone anticipated.
“I said from the beginning that I wok in quadrennials,” said Rousey .”I do four-year cycles. I think I’ve got two years left in me, realistically, if I’m going to do this like an Olympic run.”
“I am the best f—ing fighter in the world, and I truly believe that, but you’re still rolling the dice no matter who you are, so I do have to kind of set up an exit strategy. That’s what I did wrong in judo. I followed it all the way until the end, and I didn’t put any thought into after.”
“I’d say two more years, so I’ve got two more years to get the ball rolling without me,” Rousey added. “‘TUF’ was the first step. It’s not the last one, but the work’s getting done.”
Rousey’s revelation may take some folks by surprise, but considering the profile she already has and the opportunities that keep rolling in, it’s not that shocking. It will be interesting, however, to see what UFC boss man Dana White has to say about this.
Rousey is scheduled to fight fellow TUF 18 coach and rival Miesha Tate for a second time on December 28th at UFC 168.
