Houston Alexander vs. Andre Gusmao, Matt Wiman vs. Sam Stout, and Derek Downey vs. Nick Catone have been revealed for upcoming UFC cards over the last 24 hours:

  • Light heavyweights Houston Alexander and Andre Gusmao will clash at UFC 98 on May 23rd in Las Vegas. After back-to-back knockout wins over Keith Jardine and Alessio Sakara to start his UFC career Alexander (8-4) has dropped three-straight to Thiago Silva, James Irvin, and Eric Schafer. Gusmao (5-1), a veteran of the IFL, lost to Jon Jones via unanimous decision in his UFC debut in August. The loser of this matchup will almost assuredly be cut by the UFC, at least temporarily.
  • Lightweights Matt Wiman and Sam Stout will square off at UFC 97 on April 18th in Montreal. After dropping his UFC debut to Spencer Fisher Wiman (10-4) won four-straight bouts before losing via unanimous decision to Jim Miller in December. Stout has loss three of his last four UFC bouts, picking up a victory over Per Eklund early last year while losing fights to Spencer Fisher, Rich Clementi, and Terry Etim.
  • Nick Catone finally has an opponent for his UFC debut as he’ll take on newcomer Derek Downey in place of an injured Amir Sadollah at UFC Fight Night 17 on February 7th. Downey is 10-3 as a professional while Catone brings an undefeated 5-0 mark into the bout.

Not bad match-ups. but it sucks that Stout is fighting Wiman as I’m a fan of both and I think the loser is going to be on the back tread for a while. I say Stout on the feet and Wiman on the ground.

Looks like UFN 17 has filled out again, I’m glad they found replacements. I’m not nearly as interested in seeing Downey-Catone as I was Sadollah-Catone, but it could still be a good fight. Alexander v. Gusmao is probably a loser leaves fight, Alexander on the feet, Gusmao if it goes to the ground. Wiman v. Stout should be a good fight, I think Wiman is safe win or lose, but Stout could be looking for a promotion if he loses. Wiman definitely needs to have a better showing than he did against Jim Miller, he looked pathetic in that fight.

Its good to see Houston getting back in there, hopefully he triped and fell broke a toe got slapped by his momma and found something that looks remotely like a ground game… I like Alxeander but the guy needs to get his shhh together, I think that his story is good and he is a pretty good standup fighter, but he needs this win bad… I wish to make it to the show on May 23rd but as of now im not quite sure..

Wiman~Stout, I dont know but my gut tells me to go with Wiman
    Downey~Catone mehhhhh

Finally my boy “the assasin” is back in action. Wiman vs Stout, dude i like both these guys but i think stout will win a dec. What’s up with sadollah always getting injured?

Alexander is in another fight? Don’t know too much about gusmao but if watches Houston’s tape all he has to is get him to the ground and make him tap, but seeing houston standing over someone he knocked out yelling at him would be pretty sweet though.

Wiman didn’t look bad his last fight but Miller just looked amazing. Wiman should pound on Stout on the ground and then finish the fight standing. I got Wiman in the 2nd

Downey-Catone hmmm… I’ll take the undefeated Catone haha

  • Anom says:

Catone vs Downey should be bumped down from main card and Anthony Rumble Johnson vs Luigi Fioravanti should be put onto the main card.

  • willyd says:

Been 3 years since Alexander has been passed the 1st round, win or lose. Will continue on in this fight, Gusmao TKO 3rd minute.

Stout needs to stop having fights go to a decision. Don’t think this will be the fight he does it, Wiman by UD.

Catone 1st round 3rd minute TKO.

  • NateP says:

Derek Downey will surprise. Keep it on the main card, The UFC finally has a middleweight worthy of title-contention.
