Hermes Franca Withdraws From UFC Fight Night 17 Main Event

Hermes Franca has been forced to withdraw from his headlining bout at UFC Fight Night 17 against Joe Lauzon after suffering a torn ACL in his right knee.
Franca announced the injury and withdrawal late last night on The Underground.
UFN 17 takes place on February 7h at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida and airs live on Spike TV. With less than two weeks until fight night the UFC is seeking to quickly find a replacement to take on Lauzon. However, it’s likely that Mac Danzig vs. Josh Neer, a previously scheduled main card bout, will now headline the card.
Franca’s injury, which was suffered on Saturday, marks the second main card change in the past week. On Friday Amir Sadollah withdrew from his bout against Nick Catone after suffering a broken clavicle while training.
The UFC has not yet announced the injuries of Franca or Sadollah and replacements have not yet been named for either fight.

Well that sucks, I wonder what the UFC is going to do now?? O for when people say this is a shhhhity card and the UFC is putting weak cards on now blah blah blah, um its free be quiet and understand that these usually are some of the most exciting cards put on because they’re free and your expectations are a bit low, cheers

That sucks… torn ACL… there goes 9-12 months of Franca’s career. I bet Dana could call up the Miller brothers and have them fill in… Jim Could fill in for Franca, and Dan could fill in for Amir.

Phillipe Nover… yeah, maybe but I think Lauzon is too much for him. Jim Miller would be a good match-up. Nover’s not big enough for Catone.

They should put Jeremy Stephens or Roger Huerta in the MainEvent with J. Lauzon

I thought Stevens was doing UFC 96. His Street Fighter style uppercut back at UFC 91 was great and I really wanted to see him repeat live, but I guess he’s the best last minute replacement for a main event you can find.
