MMAFrenzy’s UFC 163 live fight coverage kicks off with our recap of tonight’s opening trio of fights. In the Facebook featured bout, Rani Yahya defeated Josh Clopton via a solid performance. In other action, Francimar Barroso and Bristol Marunde picked up wins tonight in front of the raucous Brazilian crowd.
Yahya Controls Clopton
Josh Clopton and Rani Yahya wrapped up the three-fight Facebook preliminary action with a solid performance by the Brazilian. Yayha’s improved wrestling and striking were what made the difference in the fight, as he was able to seize control of the bout en route the decision win. The Brazilian has now won three straight and is 4-1 in the Octagon.
Barroso Defeats Oliveira
In the second bout of the evening, Francimar Barroso and Ednaldo Oliveira met in a battle of Brazilians. The fight was a rather disappointing affair, as Oliveira’s short-comings were exposed by Barroso – who replaced Robert Drysdale – with only a few exceptions. The victory was Barroso’s first in the UFC and will likely see Oliveira released.
Andrade Rocks Marunde
A bout between Viscardi Andrade and Bristol Marunde kicked off the evening tonight in Rio de Janeiro. Despite his noted BJJ prowess, it was Andrade’s striking that led to victory tonight in front of the, as usual, partisan crowd. Andrade connected with a left-right combo that floored The Ultimate Fighter 16 veteran. Marunde would scramble to survive, but a second shot from Andrade connected as the American tried to stand and the fight ended soon after.
