There may be several roadblocks to a Jon Jones-Daniel Cormier just yet, but a rivalry between the two highly regarded fighters is clearly ‘blossoming’. Cormier has made it be known for sometime now that he hopes to face Jones at some point, and most recently, the heavyweight announced his intention to call for an immediate title shot at 205, after he fights Roy Nelson.
The light-heavyweight champion was in attendance at a UFC World Tour event on Tuesday, and when asked about Cormier’s recent declaration, Jones fired away at the Strikeforce vet. According to a report from MMA Junkie.com, here is some of what Jones had to say about Cormier.
“DC is a guy who really wants to be famous. I don’t think he wants to work hard. I think he just wants to be famous. You can see it in his physique; you can see it in his card.”
“He has, like, 20,000 Twitter followers. He has short reach, bad cardio (and) he looked terrible in his last fight. It’s like, I’m not worried about him at all.”
Wow. Jones also added that Cormier isn’t “relevant to me”, but clearly there’s a growing beef here no? Evidently Jones also examines a potential opponent’s Twitter following, which in the case of Cormier, sits at around 57,000, not 20K. This is getting good…
Up next, Jones will take on Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 on September 21st, and Cormier will battle Nelson at UFC 166 on October 19th.
