Four fighters picked up $50,000 in bonus money for their performances in the Octagon tonight. Ed Herman, Trevor Smith, Melvin Guillard, and UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson were awarded fight night bonuses tonight in Seattle. UFC president Dana White announced the bonuses at the UFC on FOX 8 post-fight press conference.
Herman and Smith Earn $50K for Preliminary Slugfest
Ed Herman and Trevor Smith laid it all on the line tonight in their preliminary bout tonight on FX to earn “Fight of the Night.” While the bout put Herman in the hospital, he would get the nod from the judges in the end. The bonus was Herman’s fifth in the UFC and Smith’s first (in his debut).
Guillard Edges Lawler for “KO of the Night”
In the toughest category of the night, Melvin Guillard’s brutal knockout of Mac Danzig would receive “Knockout of the Night.” Guillard dropped Danzig in the second round of their FX preliminary bout and quickly put him away for the victory. White admitted that it was the toughest category of the night, as Robbie Lawler’s highlight reel KO of Bobby Voelker provided stern competition for the bonus. The bonus was Guillard’s fourth in the UFC.
Johnson Submits Moraga for “Submission of the Night”
UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson pitched a near perfect performance tonight in Seattle. The new father would earn $50K for his “Submission of the Night” victory over John Moraga in tonight’s main event. The bonus was Johnson’s third in the UFC.
