Tonight’s UFC on FOX 8 fight card kicked off with a battle in the UFC bantamweight division as Liz Carmouche and Jessica Andrade squared off in Seattle. In the first ever WMMA bout on network TV, Carmouche would prove victorious over the tough young Brazilian.
Carmouche Crushes Andrade
In her UFC debut, Jessica Andrade came out strong against Liz Carmouche in the opening frame but was unable to keep it going against the USMC veteran. Andrade put Carmouche in danger with a pair of deep guillotine chokes that had the former title contender in a bit of danger. Carmouche would keep her wits about her however, and turned it around in the second.
Carmouche landed a driving takedown early in the second round and quickly advanced to the mount. Once she ended up in that position, it was all a matter of when the bout would end. Carmouche would try for the rear-naked choke finish but elected to finish with strikes in stead. Carmouche is now 1-1 in the Octagon and 3-1 in her last four.
Rd. 1- Legkick by Carmouche starts the action. Andrade tries a takedown off a caught kick but Carmouche defends well and secures a takedown of her own. Adrade works up but gets taken down. Carmouche advances to side control. Andrade stands up with Carmouche on her back before securing the reversal. Guillotine attempt by Andrade. Carmouche defends for awhile but Andrade readjusts and it’s deep for a time. Carmouche seems ok and is firing knees to the hamstring of Andrade as the round ends. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Andrade.
Rd. 2- Andrade drives forward early but Carmouche lands a powerful driving takedown. Carmouche moves to side control and then mount. Carmouche is firing off major punches now. RNC attack by Carmouche now but Andrade defends it and gets back to mount. Carmouche forces her to give up her back again and is landing big shots now. More shots as Andrade tries to survive but Carmouche just powers through and Herb Dean mercifully steps in.
