UFC 166 is shaping up to be an AKA night as former Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold has joined the fray. Rockhold will be taking on Tim Boetsch this October in Houston. ESPN first reported the matchup, though it is unclear where the bout will land on the card.
Both fighters head into the bout in search of a much-needed victory. Rockhold was blasted by Vitor Belfort in his UFC debut at UFC on FX 8, snapping a nine-fight win streak for the AKA product. His opponent, Boetsch, is in dire need of a victory after three straight lackluster performances have seen him fall to 1-2. “The Barbarian” was last in action at UFC 162, where he dropped a decision loss to Mark Muñoz.
UFC 166 is headlined by the third fight between UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos. A bout between Daniel Cormier and Roy Nelson will co-headline the billing. The fight card will take place October 19 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. More bouts are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
