Due to the fact that Anderson Silva continued to rule as UFC Middleweight Champion, as Fedor Emelianeko lost three straight with Strikeforce and finished out his career fighting for M-1 Global, for many people, the greatest of all time discussion was over. For sometime now, “The Spider” has been the sport’s consensus G.O.A.T.
Now, whether some fans change their position on who the sport’s greatest ever is, due to what went down at UFC 162, remains to be seen. If Silva were to lose to Weidman again at UFC 168, the G.O.A.T discussion may get more complicated for some fans, for others it won’t. What is interesting, however, is that Jose Aldo recently relayed that in his opinion, Fedor is the greatest of all time. By the sounds of it, the UFC featherweight champ has thought so for quite a while.
While speaking to Esporte Interativo, the pound-for-pound contender had this to say, while discussing the G.O.A.T.:
“Man, I think we all have a list. The number one for me is Fedor Emelianenko. I’m a big fan of him, the guy is so amazing. In second I put Royce (Gracie), then Chuck Liddell, Anderson Silva and then there’s me.”
Interesting list. In case you missed it, Silva was asked for his G.O.A.T picks prior to facing Weidman, and the renowned fighter repeated his contention that it’s BJ Penn, followed by Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell and Royce Gracie. Of course, that may be the only G.O.A.T list on the planet that doesn’t have Silva on it…
Aldo will take on Chan Sung Jung at UFC 163, August 3rd in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
