Former TUF 15 competitor Sam Sicilia will battle Felipe Arantes at UFC Fight Night 28, and not Godofredo “Pepey” Castro as scheduled. The fight, which will be part of the third UFC on FOX Sports 1 card (but is no longer being titled UFC on FS1 3…) will go down September 4th, at the Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
According to a report from the Brazilian outlet Globo.com, “Pepey” has been forced to drop out of the featherweight tilt due to a knee injury.
Arantes (15-5-1), is interestingly enough, coming off a first round stoppage win over “Pepey” at UFC on FUEL TV 10, after battling Milton Vieira to a split draw at UFC 147 last June. Arantes has gone 2-1-1 to date in the UFC, with his other win coming via unanimous decision over Antonio Carvalho. Arantes’ sole defeat came via UD versus Yuri Alcantara.
Sicilia (11-3) is in desperate need of a win, as the TUF vet has lost to Rony Bezerra and Maximo Blanco, after knocking out Cristiano Marcello at the TUF 15 Finale.
UFC Fight Night 28 has had 10 bouts confirmed to date, and will feature Glover Teixeira taking on fellow light-heavyweight contender Ryan Bader in the main event. The main card will also see middleweight Yushin Okami taking on “Jacare” Souza, and Joseph Benavidez fighting flyweight Jussier “Formiga”.
