Bellator 99 Heads to Temecula

Vladimir Matyushenko

Bellator MMA is going to California on September 14 for Bellator 99. The card will feature the opening round of the featherweight tournament and mark the promotional debuts of former UFC fighters Diego Nunes and Vladimir Matyushenko. Bellator officials announced the card earlier today.

Matyushenko will be taking on former Bellator light heavyweight champion Christian M’Pumbu, who recently lost his title at Bellator 91 to Attila Vegh. The former Russian National Team member is excited to be making his Bellator debut against the former champ, stating via press release:

“This is exactly what I wanted entering Bellator, a tough test right from the start,” Matyushenko said. “I still have a lot of fights left in my tank, and this is the start of a new chapter in my career.”

The card will feature two intriguing opening round featherweight tournament match-ups, as Diego Nunes will take on Patricio Freire. In the second pairing, Dagestani fighter Shahbulat Shamhalaev will look to start another run at the title by taking on Russo-Armenian striking savant Akop Stepanyan.

Bellator 99 will take place at the Pechanga Resort and Casino, with tickets starting at $50. The under card will begin at 7PM ET, with the Spike TV main card beginning at 9PM ET.
