After putting together a 6-1 record outside the UFC, John”Doomsday” Howard has battled his way back to the promotion and will fight Uriah Hall at the first, UFC on FOX Sports 1 card in Boston, August 17th.
The Boston Herald reported Howard’s return on Wednesday, and the UFC re-tweeted news of the bout afterwards. Howard is stepping in on short notice as a replacement for the injured Josh Samman.
The 30 year-old Howard (20-8) won his first four bouts with the UFC, but after losing three in a row, the Boston fighter was released.
Hall (7-3), meanwhile, hasn’t competed since the TUF 17 Finale in April, when he was handed a split decision loss by Kelvin Gastelum. Hall captured headlines during TUF 17 by scoring several highlight reel knockouts (cue footage of his bout with Adam Cella), and was a favorite heading into the bout as a result.
Considering “Doomsday’s”own extensive striking skills, Howard-Hall definitely has the potential for some serious fireworks.
UFC on FS1 1 will be hosted by Boston’s TD Garden Arena and will feature former light-heavyweight champ “Shogun” Rua taking on Chael Sonnen in the main event.
