If you’ve been following the pre-fight ‘dialogue’ Jake Ellenberger and Rory MacDonald have been having, heading into their UFC on FOX 8 bout, then you won’t be surprised to hear it continued during a recent medial call to promote the July 27th event.
The two exchanged some fiery tweets a few weeks back, but more recently, it seems like Ellenberger has been conducting more of the verbal warfare. The 28 year-old welterweight was predictably asked about the comments he’s directed MacDonald’s way, and Ellenberger responded by saying (quote via MMA Fighting):
“I haven’t said anything that wasn’t true,” said Ellenberger, who is coming off a KO win over Nate Marquardt. “My message to Rory was pretty clear. … This isn’t a Tears for Fears lookalike contest. All I said to him is prepare for some horizontal television time and I meant it.”
Wow. That statement is definitely Sonnen-esque. When MacDonald was asked about Ellenberger’s verbal jabs ,and whether he looks to hurt fighters who engage in trash talk, the rising welterweight stated:
“I don’t really care,” MacDonald replied, while . “It doesn’t really bother me either way, I don’t really care about the disrespect or whatever. I just get in there and fight my fight. If they suffer, they suffer. I don’t really care if they’re nice or if they’re an a–hole.”
Whether the animosity is real or not, it’s definitely a ‘must see bout’, particularly because the winner could lock up a title fight.
